There are some pretty intense upper body workouts that only use body weight exercises. Example, Burpees. Personally, I LOATHE the things. However, they are a pretty amazing body weight exercise that works every part of your body, not just your upper body.
My upper body strength was at its best when I did yoga regularly. When properly practiced, yoga can be a heck of a strength building routine.

Can you just not lift a weight past a certain number, or would you rather do bodyweight exercises? What about using resistance bands instead? That way YOU control how much resistance you are bringing to your muscles.
