I think this is one of those situations where people are always going to disagree. I really held out and wanted to not switch to any Apple product, however I went through 3 Blackberry handsets in a year with countless visits to the store for repairs, before convincing the company to allow me to have the upgrade price on a Droid 2. Again I went through multiple handsets (5 this time). I've had the same iphone for more than 2 years and it still works great.
I find a lot of the current android smart phones too big for me. I won't switch to the iphone 5 because after spending time playing with a store model, I just don't like it. So, since I don't like any of the current model smart phones, I'm sticking with my iphone 4 until something that I believe is better comes out.

I have the Samsung S2 and my dad has the S3. We both like our phones immensely.

One of my family members that knows technology steered my dad away from getting another iphone and told him to get a Samsung. He said that Samsung products are better than the iPhone. He has even gone as far to say that he hates the iPhone.

My dad hated his iPhone and traded it in for a different smart phone. I don't know why he would get another when all he did was complain about the one he had. Seems to be happy with the Samsung.

I have both an iPhone and the leading Android handset (Samsung Galaxy S3). My iPhone is much older in years, but I still prefer it to the Android. iPhone wins hands down. The app store has more of what I'm looking for, typing on the iPhone is a breeze and very fast, whereas it is cumbersome on the Android, and I like the form factor of the iPhone better.

In Cyprus...Android every time! We cannot get most of the apps for the Iphone- not allowed in our country, so waste of time for me...

Thanks for posting this thread as I have been toying with the idea of getting a cell phone....yes before you faint, I don't have one currently and I am 50 years old. The Iphone sounds like a good choice but I will do more research on it.

I have an iPhone and my husband has a Galaxy. I LOVE my phone...he HATES his and wishes he wouldn't have let the sales guy talk him into an Android. He's had nothing but issues with it (he's even had to replace it once and STILL had issues, albeit different ones). I heard it explained like this: iPhones are for people who just want to pick up a smartphone and use it without having to read the instructions. Unlike Android's that are a lot more in depth.

I use only one platform for the reason mentioned below. If I switched platforms, I'd have to pay for apps again and also set everything up again that I use.

I've never actually had an iPhone but I have an iPod 4 which has about everything the iPhone 4 has, except the phone.
I also have an iPad 1. I like these devices but I have a Droid phone and feel it offers more flexibility, for example you can remove the memory card and put pictures and videos directly on it. I don't like Apple's concept of using iTunes to transfer music and stuff from your PC to the device.

Something to keep in mind is if you have any apps, they may not transfer over to a new platform (iPhone to Android or Android to iPhone. So you will have to pay for apps again if you switch platforms, but wouldn't have to do that if you stay with the same platform. I don't know how much that will make a difference for you, but thought I would mention that.

I have always described the difference between the two systems this way. Android is like the person you meet that will do anything you want with. it will try anything and give you a joy like you never experienced. But this would not be the person you would introduce to your parents. iPhone on the other hand, is sexy and easy going person, but it has firm boundaries and knows how to say NO. But they are definitely the one you would introduce to your parents.

I have a Samsung Galaxy 2S that I've been using for 1-1/2 years now. Love it. I've not ever had an iPhone, so can't do a compare for you, but I personally love that the Galaxy screen is a bit larger than the iPhone.

Good luck ... I know there are so many choices out there it can be tough ...

I love my iphone 4S. I have never had any problems with it. I love that it works with my ipad, and my kids Ipods too. when my carrier was having trouble due to a storm I could still talk to most of my friends and family through Imessage. I don't have a house phone but because our products work together she can still contact me.

I also love how it's so easy to use compared to when I try to use my mothers Samsung.
