Once you build up to it (starting slowly but progressing as you get more fit), I think many sources agree that for most adults around 30 minutes of brisk walking 5-6 times a week is a good number to shoot for. ======================================== ========= "For most healthy adults, the Department of Health and Human Services recommends at least two hours and 30 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or one hour and 15 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic activity — preferably spread throughout the week....As a general goal, aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day. If you can't set aside that much time, try two 15-minute sessions or three 10-minute sessions throughout the day."
There is no magic number but if walking is going to be your form of exercise start with a comfortable distance and pace and increase it gradually as you go along. For example: if you can only walk around the block start there, then the next day try to walk a little further.
