I usually eat an apple and a handful of nuts half way through the morning. On my way home I usually eat an apple in the car.

i will note that i am in the minority here, but i snack instead of having meals. in other words, i am a grazer, i have always been a grazer and i'm always going to be a grazer. eating three square meals is just about the least satisfying thing i can do. they don't agree with me, and i don't like them. so i snack all day instead. i eat about 200 cals eight times a day. you do have to pay attention so that what you're eating balances out over the day, but you can get a lot of variety in there.
yesterday i had
-half a bagel and cheese -140 cals
-yogurt and granola -220 cals
-apple and peanut butter -160 cals
-salad -200 cals
-three sisters corn chowder -177 cals
-mashed potatoes with cruciferous veggies, topped with lentils in a mushroom sauce -160 cals
-rock shrimp, steamed squash, mushrooms and sauce -450 cals
-cheese and crackers -180 cals
which is a little on the low side, but i haven't been working out this week, so it's not a big deal.

There are plenty of snacks one can eat in between meals. Which by the way, I'm all for. Eating 3 small meals and having small snacks in between them really help me to feel nourished and not hungry. As far as the snacks, I eat almonds, cucumbers, cheese, even a cookie sometimes. As long as one tracks their food properly, they can eat most anything they want.

I was about to ask the same question, so I'd love help here too. I snack a lot during the day and have a small breakfast and lunch, normal dinner. I used to be a big binge eater especially in the afternoon, but I've found if I eat something about every hour until about 4pm (dinner is usually around 6 or 7) then I maintain control. I have protein shake in the morning before the gym, then have a banana after I've cooled down. An hour or so later I'll have string cheese, and later an apple. Then usually a small lunch like oatmeal and yogurt, then more snacks like carrots and raisins in the hours leading up to dinner. I almost always stay in my calorie ranges and have been losing weight, but is this healthy and ok, or am I doing something to mess with my metabolism or weight loss goals. My tracker is public :) thanks!

I just had a large artichoke with a tablespoon of mayo. 174 calories, 17g Carb, 9g fiber, 11g fat, 5g protein (protein from the artichoke!). A good balanced snack. And since working through the leaves takes awhile, it gives me a nice moment to nourish myself.

You have to plan for an artichoke since they take close to 40 minutes to steam, but this is the season to enjoy them!

I generally have fruit with protein, for example a smoothie made with banana, frozen strawberries, and Greek yogurt, or some grapes with string cheese. Carrots with hummus is also a good choice. Just keep your snacks light and go for nutritious things most of the time.

I think that if you are hungry, you should eat unless something is interfering (me, I have to be hungry a couple times a day because of medicines).

It doesn't have to be anything huge. My dietician recommends two snacks throughout the day. It is important to pair complex carbs with some protein or healthy fats, though, to keep you fuller. Some suggestions she had are: fruit and 12 cashews or almonds OR yogurt or cheese stick, fruit, 6 almonds or cashews

I have been doing veggie dip so that I can get in my veggie servings - I tend not to eat them with my regular meals. When I can get to the store, I am going to buy some yogurt and nuts. Also going to try some new fruits - I am picky about the fruits I eat.

HTH!

depending on who you listen to and the opinions on this are various-- One person could say that you should eat every three to four hours. not a big meal each time, but at least something. Others will tell you that you shouldn't snack.

I am all for eating mini meals throughout the day. Here is my general rule-- I eat a little protein for breakfast but try to do more carbs as I have all day to burn them off. As the afternoon nears and evening is right around the corner, i cut back on the carbs and have absolutely none past 3PM. then I start to eat more protein. My afternoon/after work snack is some peanut butter and celery. I try to cut down on fruit in the afternoon due to the sugar content, but again this is widely contested as to whom you may talk too. My dinners are primarily high protein veggies and a little bit of meat but since I am going to more of a raw diet, I am cutting back severly on meat.

so don't look at it as a snack but a mini meal.

What's your current caloric intake and calorie range? What you eat at meals is pretty important for feeling fuller later and not caving to snacks. If you'll create a Sparkpage and share your nutrition/fitness trackers, we can take a look and see if there's some specific changes to suggest for you.

I tend to get really really hungry in between my meals. I am not sure if it is b/c I am losing weight or if it is b/c of something else. But i need to know...is it ok for me to snack in between meals and if so what can i eat?
