For myself, I've found the following helpful:
*Start slowly. Make one or two steps a solid habit, then add more. Don't take on the whole world at once.
*Try to see every nutrition and fitness choice as an opportunity. For example, choosing fruit and oatmeal over a doughnut is an opportunity to reach your goals, not something to dread.
*Realize that everyone makes mistakes. Get back up. You're strong enough!
*Figure out as closely as possible both calories in and calories out. That way, if other things come in that affect weight loss, you at least know this piece of the puzzle.
*SparkPeople is a great place to find other motivated people, but find also someone around you if you can. If you can't, at least find a buddy you can turn to on the phone or online for times when you're struggling.
