Like others, I make them for both meals and snacks. I've had them be up to 500 calories, for which they then HAVE to be a meal for me.
I have to say.... these smoothies are a tremendously helpful way to get vegetables in. I don't like salads, and smoothies are the way to go for me. As healthful as Kale is, I much prefer spinach. I prefer kale cooked.
