I hate to say it, but I tend to agree. What's really bad is that a lot that he has to say makes a great deal of sense and he's very knowledgeable....but all this good is mixed in with just too much pandering of diet wonders!

Ever since I saw Dr. Oz completely discount Gary Taubes (a major advocate for low-carb lifestyles) and then a couple of weeks later tout a Paleo diet (a low-carb lifestyle very close to what Gary Taubes suggests) I lost all respect for the Oz man. He is a shill for his corporate sponsors and has sold his soul to make money.

I bought some and took it irregularly (like you, I have a hard time remembering to take stuff like this) so haven't taken anymore. I'm also on thyroid meds for hypothyroidism. Over 10 years ago they removed half my thyroid. No cancer but they determined that I have Hashimoto's disease which is where your own thyroid attacks itself. All is controlled very well with thyroid meds so I'm blessed because of that. Have a great day!
Just because someone smooth-talking is a doctor or has a license, doesn't mean we should pay attention to him. That guy has got a cure a minute for weight loss.

I didn't take it for long because my doctor changed my med. I have a goiter and he treats that with thyroid medicine. Well, he tested it and I was still way too low so he raised my thyroid dose to the maximum allowable results. I've lost 4 pounds but I credit that to the thyroid medicine and I quit taking the green coffee bean. It was terrible for me to remember to try taking it.

How have you done on the green coffee bean since you got it a month or more now?
I'm glad it works, but....you can't be serious about about not having to change anything. The idea is to adopt a healthy lifestyle plan, including eating and exercise, not try to continue with your old habits that got you into the situation in the first place. It doesn't really matter if you "don't like change" because I'm assuming you like living, correct? Then learn to embrace the change and don't whine. And for the love of God, please use spell checker and "i" is ALWAYS written as I-that's a capital I.
Good luck to you but don't expect a pill to be your savior. It's just not reality based.
By the way, this was in response to "JAMIESANTOS3" but could apply to any of you...
In defense of the "Oz", he does have experts in the various medical fields working for the show. It isn't just him.

what did you do to fix it? i did the same thing and i fell for it, i order this extra bottle that is suppsed to help you more ( unfortunately i forgot the name) and that bottle didnt came with Pure green coffee and they promised me a voucher whatever and i didnt get any, what should i do? HELP!

This stuff has been doing wonders for me. Before i started Sparkpeople i was struggling really bad to lose weight. I started taking pure green coffee bean extract and ive been on it for 2 months ive lost 14 lbs already and im still going. I didnt have to change anything because i know im like many other people and dont like change but this stuff really works. i know everybody elses bodies are going to react differently but the pure green coffee bean extract 800 mg no added ingredients like dr. oz reccomends is realy what works. I got mine from healthyhopenaturals.com i did my research and that was the brand i went with because they are 100% what dr. oz reccomended. anybody looking to lose any weight should try this is was a complete lifesaver for me. AISLYNN125: I will. I'm on Day 2 of taking them. No ill effects so far. I have my Week 2 weigh in on Sunday. My first week I only lost 2 pounds (which is unusual for me in the first week of a diet), and I've been great at tracking and staying within my calories/nutrients, drinking water, etc., so I expect (even without the magic pills :) ) that I will lose again.
I think the reason I didn't lose more my first week is that I hadn't been drinking enough water and was dehydrated (prior to beginning Sparkpeople) and that, once hydrated, I weighed more.
My grandmother had Lupus. I understand it is an auto-immune disease. I think it's great you exercise and are taking care of yourself in spite of this! Keep goin' ... and I'll report in.

Mine arrived yesterday. I will start it today. I was hoping that it would enhance my work outs and diets just a bit. Winter is coming and i have Lupus. When it flares, exercize hurts so bad that I had hoped this supplement would at least be enough to suppress my appetite a bit in the winter when I can't work out as often or as hard. It is so much more difficult to stick to a diet when you're sick. That's when you want the comfort foods and the bizarre cravings come.
My mother was looking for a miracle and believes everything Dr. Oz has to say. I have to agree with the lady that wrote the other post about his sample group being too small. I'm working on my doctorate and as a researcher, I wasn't satisfied either. Furthermore, faith can accomplish many things. My mom has faith in Dr. Oz and therefore, faith in those pills.
I'll post results. I hope you will do the same.

Dr. Oz is a very famous cardiovascular surgeon, but I didn't know he switched his carrier to dietitian. (sarcastic:p)
I chose my tea by taste, not by some shady "research' conducted by seller.
It's summer. Roasted barley tea (mugi-cha) is my favorite.
AISLYN, those are amazing results for your mom! I have ordered the supplement so I will try it and report back. Not sure I'll be the best test as I just started Sparkpeople, just re-started exercising and eating right, etc., so I'm not a "control" test, LOL. But I think I will be able to tell if it's making a difference, and will report in in a few weeks.

My mom has lost 16 lbs in 3.5 weeks on the green coffee bean extract. She had already been dieting (not exercizing due to health reasons). She plateaued and couldn't loose anymore weight prior to this supplement. The supplement was her ONLY change. It took 10 days for the weightloss to register on the scale. She's insulin resistant and she's not suffered any side effects.
I just ordered the supplement and here's why: I have noticed that for me to loose weight, I have to exercise hard enough and long enough to get my body into sugar burning mode. This means I have to keep my heart rate above 65% for more than 30 minutes. I do this for 45 minutes every day and it's killing my bum leg.
Perhaps the secret to weightloss depends upon individual need. I plateaued myself. When I can get the sugar to burn right out of my blood stream, I loose weight. Other things just don't work as well. When I blend that with making sure I eat some raw fruit or veggies every day, I feel pretty good.
We will see. I will certainly post if this stuff works for me like it is my mom.

I discovered it late ... a few days ago. I never watch Dr. Oz, but I do know Oprah had him on. anyway, I succumbed to my own desires to lose weight and the "science" touted. LOL. I ordered a six-month supply! $161 I believe. Anyway, I will try it because I ordered it. But ...
TONIGHT I got a call from some company inquiring about my order, just to make sure everything was "alright" ... then they said along with my order I'd get a free voucher for $100 worth of free gas. My antennae were up on that, let me tell you. When they put me on hold and had me talk to the SECOND person, she asked me if I understood that there was no obligation, and I could cancel anytime. I said, "Cancel what?!" and she said, the "Budget Busters" I'd just agreed to. I said, "Hear me loud and clear. 1. I am not signing up for ANYTHING I have to cancel. 2. Put me on your Do Not Call list effective immediately." So basically, the Dr. Oz gang SOLD my name to some sleazy outfit that would have charged me $29.95/month for "budget busters" that are likely worthless. DO NOT FALL FOR IT! I guess they figure, if you're sucker enough to buy the supplement, you will be an easy sell for something else.

I never watched Dr Oz much - but one day I did - and I don't remember what it was but he was giving praise to some supplement and I fell for it - ordered it - a couple days later I watched him again and guess what he had a bigger better deal - and yes I fell for that one too - well this may have gone on several other times - and ding the light bulb went off (finally) - what the heck and I doing and even more what the heck is he doing? I do like to watch him but I can not believe he is saying everything he promotes is the BEST. Well anyway I had to back away from him - so when I do watch him now I take it with an open mind on my part and know "everything" is not going to work for me or anybody else.

I agree with the others. Dr. Oz is a paid promoter of whoever pays him the most today. He's the TV equivalent of a snake oil salesman He's a walking info-mercial.
I'd never watch him at all, except when it happens to be on when I'm in a waiting room somewhere. Not worth my time and energy to waste on his crud
I fell for the green coffee bean scam as well. I have been using GCB for three months and did not lose one pound, not one ounce. I bought two different brands, thinking one might be superior but alas, neither worked. I agree with past posts that if this was the answer for weight loss wouldn't the main stream medical community be all over it recommending it to their overweight patients? It's too good to be true. I am ashamed of Dr. Oz promoting the latest snake oil, he has a huge following and people trust him, but he is really just a money man. He gives little advice that is truely useful and he has poor sots like me spending way too much money on miracles in a bottle. Indeed the only proven weight loss is lowering caloric intake and excercise.

Dr. Oz is a liar. If you watch more than one episode, you will notice that he says that often.
The other doctor who was on that show, Lindsey Duncan did cite the studies. He has his own website. the studies were just released in early May of this year. I had actually stopped watching Dr. Oz for a good year. A friend of mine called me to tell me about the show that mentioned green coffee bean extract- I typed it in on YouTube and then I started googling this and found very interesting info about this. I previously had tried other supplements recommended by Dr. Oz and honestly the others did not work for me. The science is behind the g.c.b.e, it's the chlorogenic acid that does the work. Of all the the stuff I have tried this stuff works consistently. Even Dr. Oz said that out of all the supplements he has recommended this is number one.

I started taking green coffee bean extract 3 days ago. Dr. Oz and Dr. Duncan do recommend taking 1600 mg. which is 4 capsules of a pure green coffee extract. It is not 1600 mg of caffeine.Actually very little caffeine is in pure green coffee. It is the chlorogenic acid that is causing weight loss. There are other foods that contain chlorogenic acid such as prunes, apples, black beans. . . Green coffee beans has the highest amount of c.a . It does work! I exercise and have a low calorie diet. I plan on giving it a 30 day trial to see how it does. The scientific studies done show that it burns of fat because it slows the absorption of glucose.

Here's a quick check to say "does this make sense".
If there really were aids like this to weightloss, don't you think every doctor out there, and not just some super secret (read:rich) doctors would know about it and be recommending it?
One of the reasons we ask other people on the internet, I think, is that deep down we know the answer, and that our docs would laugh at us. ;-)
Someday, medical science will come up with a treatment for weight. and when they do, if its legit, every doctor will tell you about it like they do vaccinations and asprin, cause none of us should be overweight. Till then. Cals in, cals out. Nothing easier.

Dr Oz will say whatever will make him money. He's always pushing some sort of gimmick, supplement or quick fix remedy because that's what gets him viewers, sponsors and, thus, money. He's basically a snake oil salesman.
Try getting your money back instead of just chucking it. You might not be able to, but at least you can waste some of their time and cost THEM a little money. If everyone who got sold a ripoff product would fight back just a little, we'd see some slight improvement in their business practices. Not a lot, but every little bit counts.
I'm chuckling to myself as I read all your posts. I should know better...I really should, but I rarely watch Dr. Oz as I'm at work during his time slot. But one day I was home and turned him on...wouldn't you know, it's the Green Coffee Bean episode and I fell hook line and sinker. I've been taking the pills (2 a day) a little over a week now and, like I said, I should know better! It was interesting because a week later I watched his show again and there he was touting another "herb" that melted the fat away. I'm ashamed of my 57 year old self for falling for it. :-( I have a whole bottle left and I'm gonna chuck it when I get home.

I used to be a avid Dr. Oz fan, but since he has taken over Oprah's time slot he seems to be a supplement pusher! I've spent so much money on stuff promising to lose weight, fell for the scams. Before giving in to another weight loss "promise" Ask yourself if you can "take this or that" or eat special foods the rest of your life. I am a newbie and I asked myself that same question, My answer is No! Thats why I'm here on Spark.

I was just clearing up the fact that its not 1600mg of caffine hes recommending. and then telling what is actually happening. So that I didnt get replies like "Oh well how does it work then huh?" For example someone said this "Dr. Oz recommends a dose of 800mg twice daily." That's 1600 mcg's of caffeine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and that is not true. its not a caffine pill. If someone does want to try it they should know correct information. That is all. You are right the focus of this topic wasnt on caffine but clearly some people think that this is a caffine pill.

I don't think the focus of this discussion has anything to do with caffeine -- it is that the studies that were done on humans are worthless. For example, the study posted on nih.gov has a total sample size of 16 and in each subset the sample sizes are n=4, n=6 and n=6, which are way too small to produce any kind of relevant statistical data.
In some of the studies, it is made clear that caffeine intake made the subjects more productive and more energetic, so yes, caffeine does have some level of relevance in the material anyway.
It is undeniable that that placebos can have a positive psychological effect and therefore can in turn assist in healing.
What looks to be happening is that Dr. Oz uses Google to search for "weight loss miracle" or perhaps he looks through the spam section of his email to determine what to push on people next. Most of these products either have side effects that are not disclosed to his audience or are unknown.
The miracle cure that does work for most people is extremely simple and we already know what it is -- the problem is that while the answer is simple, it is not always easy to accomplish.

I dont know why you guys think when hes saying 800mg hes meaning caffine! Hes not. thats the size of the pill. The amount of caffine in that dose is 20-25mg of caffine thats less than a chocolate bar and less that your cup of coffee. depending on the size of your coffee, lets use "venti" for example. theres 400mg or more of caffine! You may as well say starbucks is killing people, put them in jail. This supplement is not helping by using caffine at all. Its active ingredient is chlorogenic acid and it slows glucose going into the bloodstream so you dont store as much fat because glucose(sugar)turns into fat. and its all natural. Its just when beans are roasted the chlorogenic acid goes away.
If you look carefully at the source you linked, it's an advertisement. The site on which it's posted is one where any company or individual can post their "news releases" for $24.95, and if you scroll all the way to the bottom to find the author's info, she works for a sketchy supplement company.
I'm very, very surprised that it got published. They had 16 people, and all of them were given all of the treatments (high dose for a few weeks, low dose for a few weeks, and placebo for a few weeks.) Then they did analysis of variance. Well, you just can't do that. First, if all of your subjects get all of the treatments very close together, you might as well not do the experiment. We all know that the results of a "good" or "bad" week might not show up until a few weeks later. There's absolutely no way to know why these people lost weight, because they all tried everything. Second, they had no more than 6 people assigned to each experimental group, each getting 3 different things done to them. That means that when you draw it all into a grid to put your numbers in, you only have 2 people per square. To do the statistical procedure they used, you're supposed to have at least 10 per square. This study would have gotten a B in a master's level research design class with a very tolerant professor. I'm astonished that they found a journal to publish it.
Another thing that's odd is that a bunch of the articles that report on this paper say the study was done at the U of Pennsylvania at Scranton, but it says right in the paper that it was done in Bangalore, India, and all the contact info is for Bangalore. Not sure what's going on there. They also say that the people didn't change their diet, and that's not true. They didn't *report* eating any differently when taking a high dose vs low dose vs placebo, but they had all been found because they went to a weight loss clinic asking for help. They were all trying to lose weight before they even started the study. It's very likely that they would have lost weight no matter what
Anyway, a study of 18 people split among 9 conditions is a waste of time. It's about the same as saying, "My gramma ate a green apple every day, and she lived to be 107. Green apples cause long life." There are just too many other variables that they didn't look at.
It's Oprah's fault we have Rachel Ray, Dr. Oz, and Dr. Phil.
Dr. Oz is the same as the women on QVC who sell pocketknives.. get 100 knives for $44.50!
He is a salesman. If they paid him enough he would recommend two junior mints a day to cure diabetes.
Hoping coffee beans is the answer to weight loss, is more outrageous than me planting beans, hoping one will grow me a beanstalk, and I can get me a goose that lays golden eggs. Dr. Oz is preying on a generation, who is struggling with weight issues, and will do anything to lose weight, and regain help. He should be thrown in jail, along with the people who made what he does possible.
If he said green coffe beans DO cause weight loss, he would be a fraud, but saying they MAY cause weight loss is okay.
Dr. Oz MAY be killing people. 1600 mcg of caffeine is bad, but what about the health side effects the people are suffereing as they drink coffee, wondering why the scale doesn't move?If they die because they believed his " remedy " was the answer, is he not responsible? If they hadn't been wasting time, they MAY have done something useful, lost weight, and saved their lives.

Supplements are just money makers. I'm sure I'll say this again, but there is much less money in promoting proper nutrition and exercise -- the two of those are what works and are far less expensive. Even if a supplement did actually help in weight loss in a healthy manner, something I have yet to see, it would not in any way address other concerns.
The only case I have for supplements are for people who do not get particular nutrients from their diets, such as in my case, being vegan, I take a vitamin B-12 supplement.
While his show started out on the right track, it has veered far from that. It may have been lack of content, but regardless, he's now telling people to waste their money.
We have some apple juice at work that says it was shown on Dr. Oz. Who do you think that money is paid to?

My research has shown me that this extract is often prescribed to lower blood pressure, and the 800 mg dose is 800 mg of coffee bean extract, not of pure caffeine. The amount of caffeine in a dose is said to be lower than a cup of coffee. Also, it helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels. There are tons of interesting articles out there. I ordered some at purehealth100.com to try it out. :)

I wouldn't put all my faith in a pill, but along with a healthy diet and perhaps drinking green tea or the green bean coffee, you will see results. Is it because of the green coffee or the healthy diet? Who knows, but I bet you could save your $ and just eat well and exercise.

I went to the Dr. OZ site and he actually suggested a specific brand!
He already partnered with Dr. Mercola and Weight Watchers...and now he is actually suggesting a specific brand.
That is so shady!
A nutritionist on his staff gave a different suggestion:
"...suggest finding 400 mg pure green coffee bean capsules online – make sure it they are pure and contain absolutely no fillers or binders! Take two capsules about 30 minutes before meals;"
