gosh I recently tried therapy again but I am a full time RN at a busy hospital and 2 kids plus I am taking extra classes for continuing education. I put a hold on therapy. I have struggled for 19 years and I know that I need to continue just taking a break for now. thank you for your encouragement, i will keep trying.

I am sure my eating disorder voices are present. I do not no how to make them go away. I have been in treatment as a teen so much I cant even count . I am 30 now and I just don't think my body knows what to do. thank you for your encouragement. I wish you well in your recovery, I know it is so very hard.

Hi,
I am also going through treatment and have been working on recovery for the past two years. I was told it takes anywhere to 5 plus, plus years to fully recover.

My advise would be to postpone your goal of losing weight and make an appointment with an RD. Is that something that you think that you could do?

I deal with the mental blocks daily and the thing that has helped me the most was not counting calories. I counted food groups for the past couple of years and I have just started logging in my meals on sparks.

I know that seeking help is not as easy as it seems but it might be a good idea to make a list of your goals and write how not eating enough and the mental blocks are stopping you from reaching those goals.

I have found that reading blogs has helped me especially after eating meals. This link has a collection of blogs from authors and therapists:

I'd also wonder if you need to be focusing on weight loss, given your current weight and your ED history. Is 104 a healthy weight for your height and frame size?

Eating too few calories is not only going to make weight loss more difficult, it's also dangerous to your health. You definitely need to be eating more. Are you currently in counseling for your ED? If you're having these feelings, I'd strongly recommend you talk to a professional one-on-one about it.

Pick what I call "Powerhouse Foods." That is, foods that are higher in the calories, but are packed with nutrition. Some calories are way better than others.

Examples:

Beans and nuts.

Planters pre-packages some nuts for 250cals. They are also packed with healthy fat and protein. The kind that I buy/eat are called "NUT-trition"... and have walnuts, peanuts, pistachios, and almonds. See, it's a "Powerhouse" of nutrition. All good stuff and in a controlled portion.

Also, I make all of my own soups with the beans and I pre-portion and freeze 2cups each. The total calories for any of my soups can total 350cals. BUT, again, it's 2 cups - a HUGE portion - AND it's packed with protein and fiber.

Another high cal but super healthy food is avocado.

Your body will thank you for eating these foods. The nuts and avocado are heart healthy. The beans are protein and fiber = better BM's/happy colon and digestive track.

You won't gain weight by eating more calories if you choose the best calories you can find and eat controlled portions of them.

(I find that the pre-packaged nuts that I mentioned are a great food for me to eat when I get to the end of my day and I haven't met my caloric intake yet).

As some-body who is currently in treatment for an eating-disorder, and whose calories went from 350 to 1300, I can tell you once your body reaches its ideal weight (its "happy place," as my dietician calls it :o)), it'll stay there. You won't have to worry about gaining too much weight. I can also tell you, I actually lost six-pounds when my RD upped my calories, so eating more is definitely linked to weight loss to a certain extent.

Is 104 a realistic goal weight for your height or are you feeding into (no pun intended) the eating-disorder voices ?

It's really mind over matter in this case, which is super difficult. Whenever you're eating, remind yourself of why you need more than 900 calories, even if it's every meal you're reminding yourself, do so and try to make it a habit. I sometimes have to do this with working out in the morning, remind myself of why I'm up at 5:30 a. Take it one day at a time and don't beat yourself up; each day is a new day if the one before didn't go as well. Based on your history with eating disorders, it may be helpful to talk to your doctor for further suggestions. Your body may also be "happy" at the weight it's at currently. Based on your current weight unless you're 4'6", you most likely don't need to lose 20 lbs.

So I have history of eating disorders. I am trying to loose weight the healthy way and just started p90x with my husband. I keep track of calories but most days I barley make 900, yet i have not lost a single pound!!!!!! I am a RN and understand that i must eat to increase my metabolism but I can not get past the mental block that if I eat more I will not balloon up further. any encouragement, thoughts, critisisim, suggestions? Please help.
