I finally got mine yesterday!!! It is a Fitbit One. I waited for weeks for the newest model to come out. Ordered mine in burgandy, I think they had more orders for that color than were expected soooo. So far, it logs more steps than my Omron hj-112. It is very small in size which is great provided the clip never fails. I think I will like it a lot. I just wish it kept trak of my aeorbic steps and aerobic minutes separately like my Omron does.

I ordered my FitBit from Amazon. I have had it for 2 days now, and love it! Yesterday I climbed 25 floors and taken 8266 steps. I hope to do better today or at least as good.

I think the company just had an explosion of orders with the link up to Spark People and other media attention. They are overwhelmed and trying to keep up with this exponential demand would be my guess. I just hope that quality does not suffer with the demand as I have a preorder for the One and would like to have it actually work when I get it......

Not to be a debbie downer, but whats up?? I ordered one two weeks ago and still no sign of it. Looked up where fitbit is located, Seriously San Francisco is 45 miles away. Is anyone else experiencing serious delays or maybe it got lost?? emoticon

634MEG I ordered mine the same day as you and never got a backorder notice--I ordered the "lime" Zip, though. They took over a week before they shipped and now I am waiting for delivery. I'm crossing my fingers for delivery on Monday!
I hope yours comes soon too!

today is my first day with my fitbit zip and I love it! So cute. I just hope I don't lose it because its super tiny! I've been checking my progress all day on it, and I have to say it has kept me moving because I want to see it hit my goal of 10k steps in a day.

Emmannyc (sorry if I mistyped your name, we need a quote feature): Re this quote"Maybe there are good answers to these questions. For example, maybe one of the terms of the link between fitbit and Spark is that Spark would promote the product. (And if that's the case, I'm fine with it but I'd like to know as this would factor into my decision about the pros and cons of getting this gadget.) And maybe Spark did do some due diligence. Maybe they're satisfied that despite the mixed reviews about customer service and the comments from at least one user that it's possible to program fitbit to recommend 500 calories a day for food, that the product is a good one.

But right now, with Spark not being very transparent about their motives and the potential benefits to Spark associated with this relationship, I'm concerned that a potential conflict of interest is what's driving Spark management to promote this gadget so heavily."

I've been using fitbit for over two years and Spark even longer, so I am glad they are linkable now. I don't work for either, I am pretty certain Spark gets a commission for sales of fitbit through this site. After all Spark is a company, notice the .com on the email address and makes money from the adds on this site, items sold in the Spark store and in this case fitbit sales, as well as the Spark premium service. I don't really see anything dubious or not transparent about it though. A lot of sites including two other nutrition tracking sites can link with fitbit, because fitbit makes it's system open to developers include in their program. A lot of fitness tracking sites like Digifit, Runkeeper, Endomondo, etc also can sync with fitbit. All of these are for profit companies, so no doubt when they spend the money to have their developers write the code to include fitbit, they are at least in part, thinking they can increase their customer base by attracting fitbit users to their site and perhaps make some money selling fitbit's to their existing customers.

I have never had fitbit give me a 500 calorie allowance, but I can see how it could happen. In those cases it would be someone choosing too aggressive of a weight loss plan for their size and activity level. If someone only burns 1500 calories a day (some people do, I've had days like that) and is set for a 2 pound a week loss they could see a 500 calorie allowance. I do think there should be a warning that is a stupid plan as it isn't a healthy amount to eat--and well someone like this probably is not heavy enough to be able to safely lose 2 pounds a week. I don't see how that is a typical fitbit user. My fitbit allowance is really similar to the lower to middle of my Spark range--before the link. If I were set for a 2 pound a week loss, my experience would be different.

I am very happy with my fitbit, but I do not believe everyone needs one. I also think it probably isn't a good idea for some people-in terms of pros and cons. There is a little bit of a learning curve, many of the issues a lot of people have are from incorrect usage and not following instructions in the online manual. So one issue, is it is probably best for people who take the time to look at online manuals. Also as mentioned, it can give a low allowance in certain circumstances as it does not second guess your choices, so it is probably best for people with some understanding of healthy nutrition (which Spark supplies many resources for Saprk users to learn about). Really it is best as an activity tracker and motivator, in my opinion, and a diet tool is a secondary benefit after people have a good handle of what a healthy diet is. The food tracker on fitbit really isn't that great, which is why it is ideal if people handle the nutrition end of things through Spark (or one of the other sites). I do think with all the resources on Spark, the link with fitbit is a good and healthy one for me. Just my tow cents if anyone is interested in "cons" to having a fitbit. Really all well designed gadgets including heart rate monitors, fitbits, body media, pedometers, Nike fuel, etc can be excellent resources for people who take the time to learn about their device, but none of them are mandatory in the quest for health and fitness.

I've looked at them on ebay - do you think it would be worth getting a used one from there?
They're much cheaper, and cost is an issue right now.
Thanks

4mehealth, which fitbit do you have? is it the smaller one? do they have a recommended spot for carrying it? i had a similar device from weight watchers that i would clip on my bra but the fitbit i ordered looks like it might be too bulky for that.

mine is on back order...i hope i don't have to wait the entire month that they are anticipating. i'm really looking forward to the extra motivation!

fitbit must have been inundated with orders since sparkpeople has linked with them and has been so aggressively advertising them on the site.

I ordered it from Best Buy to go pick up at lunch, and despite the website letting me know that the store has it in stock, I just got an email that they do not have it. So, I canceled the order and just ordered it from Amazon. It's a couple bucks cheaper that way, anyway. So I should have it by Friday!

Ok. That's about what I was looking for; I wouldn't want to register anything that wasn't actual stairs being climbed or steps being taken. So that's even better. I just checked and my local Best Buy has them in stock. I may just run out at lunch and pick one up!

What happens when you're in a class at the gym - for example a Body Pump or Kettlebell class or something? You're not really taking any steps - is the FitBit registering anything at those times?

I've had my Fitbit since June and I love it. It motivates me, I get really excited by breaking previous days counts, it counts steps, cycling class, elliptal, just about everything. It is small and clips to my bra, it stays charged and it really helps me be accountable to myself.
Not sure why Sparkpeople hooked up with Fitbit but am glad they did, I love Sparkpeople, it is free to us and that all works for me.

I am not sure what "hard" questions you expect. Obviously SP is making money by joining up with Fitbit. That is what companies do - or what they do if they are successful. What else do you want to know. People ARE asking other users how they feel about the device. So they are doing their research.

Given that there are a lot of fitbit users on Spark, I'm glad Spark management decided to make it easier for users to sync their fitbit data with Spark.

I see lot sof excitement about this development, but I don't see many people asking Spark any hard questions about why they're ENDORSING/PROMOTING fitbit, instead of just letting people know that they've made it easier to use in conjunction with Spark. I found it a bit OTT that one of the Sparkblogs said that we could "help" Sparkpeople by buying a fitbit. Um - help? You mean help as in the way I help the insurance salesman when I buy the insurance he's selling? And did Spark management do any due diligence before they decided to enter into this endorsement?

Maybe there are good answers to these questions.

I have heard all the raves on fitbit. Is it really beneficial to have, I have a pedometer that's adequate? It wasn't an expensive one so it ticks off steps with almost no movement. Wanted to get some opinions before getting one.

yes, it should count on the elliptical. Mine even counts on my bike. I like what it does on hills. Walked in the metro park here in Ohio and went up and down some steep hills. the pretty little gadget calculated that i walked up and down 71 flights of stairs.

grrarrgh, your weight ticker/tracker thing is adorable! love the football theme...tis the season!

i'm a little surprised i didn't splurge on the sleeker one myself. a little unlike me! :)

up until about a month ago, i was going to weight watchers and they had a similar tracker but it basically pushed you to reach a percentage each day. i'm excited this one will count the steps and link to sparkpeople, too. i kinda love gadgets!

i have the ultra in blue and I LOVE it! It's the perfect size and for me it works best to wear it right in the middle of my bra. When I sub at school no one knows I have it on and I feel like I won't lose it out of say a pocket or have it come off say belt area due to bending over and dealing with children (elementary) or when I work with the children who have disabilities. Ultra works well for my life style. I bought my at Best Buy for $100 but with the new "one" coming out soon best buy has had the ultra on sale at times for $20 off of course the week I bought mine early sept. there was no sale but I think it's worth every penny!

I've been looking at them and trying to decide. I don't really want to track my sleeping, but I do go up and down the stairs a lot, so I may want the Ultra. I probably just wouldn't wear it overnight. I'm already aware of what a terrible sleeper I am. emoticon I like the look of that one better, anyway. I may have to treat myself to one of these soon. Everything I've heard about them has been really positive.
