I find that as I age (hopefully with dignity) I have become less cynical of myself and I am really aware that joy comes from within and it is up to me to share that joy with others and especially to let the joy overflow into myself. Joy comes in the morning....and God's mercies are new every morning......Now that is something to be joyful about!!!!
Make sure that you celebrate the victories, however small, that you achieve everyday. Even if it's just eating one chocolate chip cookie instead of two. Remember the old days when it would've been six cookies. Always remember that you can start over this afternoon, tonight, tomorrow. Yesterday's bad choices don't affect today's choices-unless you use them to help yourself break that cycle. Most importantly don't judge yourself by the food you eat, the exercise you do, or the number on the scale. We are all so much more than that. Most of all, remember that you are worth a healthy lifestyle and the great feeling that comes with that.
Exploration is the best word for me. I'm trying to discover just what I am capable of in all areas of my life. How fit can I becme? How far can I go?
I love pushing myself to my limits, then finding ways to overcome them. I guess the words adventure or qwest also would apply but to me it's about exploring all the possibilites and make the most out of each and every one!
The minefields of life never go away, we just get better at navigating them.

My joy comes from sharing of the life of the tallgrass prairie. My wife and I are docents and I believe our journey is to teach others the need for the preservation and conservation of the various ecosystems of the tallgrass prairie.
I like "Odyssey" - an epic adventure to last my lifetime, filled with smaller stories of triumph and tragedy and with an ending to last the ages. And of course, with a cast of characters and me as the great heroine.

For me I think the words adventure and quest best represent my journey. I am on a quest to discover the healthy fit version of me. But it's also an adventure as I try new things and reach goals that at one time seemed so far away.

What a fantastic way to look at this. For me, it is a journey and a migration. It is migrating from unhealthy habits to new habits. However, along the way of the migration, it is a journey with a lot of new things to see and do!
Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were going to live forever.
It is health that is real wealth, not pieces of gold and silver.

This spoke to me, because one of my challenges on my Inspiration Board is : "Find the fun in it again!"
Mine is between a wandering and a pilgrimage. I wander through life, not a great planner, but sometimes joy is much more unexpected that way. A pilgrimage because once I make it, it will definitely be a spiritual experience!
adventure! I never know what to expect each day and am curious about where I will end up!

WANDERING is the best that descibes me. i think mentally i am all over and get on the path for a short time but then taje a detour and get off track again.. I also have ocassional trips i enjoy.

For me this has been a quest. I've discovered and continue to discover many new and interesting attitudes, habits, and ways of living. For the first time ever I'm not planning and planning and planning while accomplishing nothing. I am no longer procrastinating until I have "everything perfect so I can start". I am just relaxing and letting it happen - and guess what? It finally is happening. Best of all, I can count on it now.
Life is happening everywhere - let's get in on it!
I am trying new things and trying to step outside the box. New recipes and then deciding if they are worth a second attempt or not. New exercises that are working all parts of my body in the comfort of my own home - who needs a gym? I find when I treat my body right I feel so much better health wise and emotionally. I don't get discouraged when I'm not successful but just keep going forward. It took a lot of years to become "smart" about choices and I truly have found joy in this journey.

Adventure with progression and transformation would encompass it for me. It hasn't been easy of course, but the adventure began with the creation of my dream board/vision collage. There was so much I wanted to do, but my size limited things greatly. I decided not to wait until I was thinner to live my dreams and just did it. Why not do both at the same time?
Although I climbed that mountain, jogged on the beach, had a dolphin encounter, etc. The other adventures were simple pleasures like being able to get down in the dirt and garden, moving around easier for photography, learning exercise, and just realizing what things I could really do now. Then of course the adventure of food over the years. I've really come along way here, and I am much more adventurous in life as well.
Awesome thread! I've enjoyed everyone's comments. There are so many aspects to this transformation.

I am definitely on a pilgrimage as my journey has been a long struggle. Learning to love and reconnect with my body is an act of faith, so the analogy to a pilgrimage is apt.
For me it is two things: a CAMPAIGN for MIGRATION. In other words, a campaign can have its ups and downs but it is ongoing and I am migrating to a happier and healthier life which will sustain me into a high age.
You don't stop doing things because you get old--- you get old because you stop doing things!

Progress because I am progressing towards the wife and mother I want to be. I am progressing towards a healthier me. I know by traveling this journey I will be here not only for my children but my husband to be for many years to come. I have 6 beautiful babies, and want more. Unfortunately I have lost 2 babies with my current partner and my body has started to fail me. I knew that having pre-e with my last 3 children and my recurrent losses was my body speaking to me. So I decided to progress towards a healthier me, so I can ACHIEVE my goals.

Progress for me, because of what I've chosen to focus on: my progress all around but especially fitness wise. Before the main focus was the scale even though I had fun exercising, and I'm not going to lie the scale is one of my main focuses, but it's equal to pursuit of improved fitness. I focus more on my progress of walking faster and faster miles, eventually working my way up to jogging and running no matter how long it takes me to get to the point of doing so. I can now if I wanted to but I'm having fun with walking for the most part... So progress describes my journey the most.
Starting weight on 5/28/14: 309.4 1st goal: 299 by July 2, 2014 (met 6/25/14) 2nd goal: 269 by October 15, 2014 (met 9/24/14) 3rd goal: 242 by January 7, 2015 (met 1/28/15) 4th goal: 218 by April 29, 2015 (met 5/6/15) 5th goal: 196 by August 19, 2015 (met 9/9/15) 6th goal: 176 by April 28, 2016
Quest... a little like Man of La Mancha ... fighting windmills of mental blocks I have built with years of bad habits and false assumptions when it comes to food choices. Dreaming of reaching goal. a little like searching for the Fountain of Youth ... because nothing works better at making you look and feel younger, than eating healthy and exercising. and a little like Neil Armstrong ... except that for me it is a series of small steps for this woman and one giant leap of change in my lifestyle.
