I have never heard of this! How awful as if surgery isn't bad enough. My sister had surgery sure she lots lots of weight but is slowly creeping back. She also has to watch all her food everyday and make sure she has enough protein. Plus if she eats to fast she gets the hiccups, doesn't eat on time she throws up, and the list goes on. No thank you!! I did the hCG diet and lost 70 pounds felt great and have no lingering side effects except the weight gone. Lol I tried injections first round...not for me...tried homeopathic drops the 2nd round. Those were great except I'm very busy and am not home much and to many days my drops were. Lol then I found out about a patch for hCG that worked just like my drops. I tried that and loved it. I didn't have to remember my drops anymore.

Oh my stars I read the article link you posted said it was the brainchild of the Doctor, Well he ought to have his brain examined for doing this!!!!!!!!!! Plus the people that are using it must realize that patch has nothing to do with the true way to lose weight & become healthy. I heard it all now!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How horrible! I'm with Bunnycakes...food is not the enemy! What a terrible thing to do to yourself..and this "Dr" should be taken before the medical board and disciplined or have his license to practice revoked.

Am I the only one dirty-minded enough to be concerned about the spouses or SOs of people who do this? Wouldn't it put a nasty crimp in an awful lot of romantic activities?

I once worked with a young woman who had a pierced tongue...
but I don't think she was trying to lose weight

People also purposely ingest tape worms to help them lose weight. People who say, "I'd do ANYTHING to lose weight" make me laugh. It doesn't take ANYTHING....all it takes is cutting calories and exercising.

People must be desperate or looking for a quick fix to even consider this. My goodness! emoticon This teaches nothing about healthy life style choices and is nothing more than a short term fix. The tongue patches remind me of how people used to get their jaws wired so that they could not chew and they would have to liquify all their food and drink it through a straw. I haven't heard of anyone having their jaws wired in years. I don't think these tongue patches will catch on.

hahahaha oh my goodness, the things some people will buy into in the desperate need for a fast fix!
I'm sorry, I'm not laughing at those people, I'm laughing at the stupid item itself.
I've been there, tried diet pills that only served to make me feel ill (while I didn't lose a pound lol).

I wonder if we as a society will ever really understand that the ONLY WAY to do this is to eat less (and better) and move more! Yep, sorry folks, that really is the only way! Its not rocket science for goodness sake.
I'm sure some of these wack-products may serve to drop a few pounds, but they don't teach us how to eat better, or exercise more efficiently, and then when we give up on them (like we always do) those pounds jump right back on again, with a few extra just for good measure!

This is really true? Even at 351+ pounds I can't say I was that desperate. And I was sitting down to cook like Paul Prudomme or however you spell his name. I'm having trouble getting off of this latest plateau but there is no way I'd do that. Just make healthy choices most of the time and eventually things will get better.

hahaha I think it would be easier and cheaper to put duck tape over your mouth and put a hole in it for a straw haha... I saw this and thought wow this is nuts! I just had to share it though cause it was so crazy...

This is ridiculous and the mere thought of it makes me mad.

Food is not the enemy. Eating is not the enemy. Food and eating should be ENJOYED.

Rather than making it painful/impossible and setting up a mindset of "me vs food" or "me vs my body" I would much rather develop a healthy, nurturing, loving relationship with food!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm losing weight WHILE EATING AND ENJOYING. I am not deprived, I am not punished, food is not my enemy. PROCESSED/JUNK-FOOD is my enemy, but tbh, it isn't really food.

It just HURTS me to see, year after year, generation after generation, this "food as enemy" message proliferating through our culture.

I've heard of it. Maybe it would be better if you just put the patch across your mouth to keep it appropriately shut!

ANARIE Posts: 12,487

I really can't believe this. It totally sounds like an April Fools joke, especially with the name of the doctor ("Chew guy"). But I Googled, and there is a web page for Dr. Nikolas Chugay that lists this along with other services.

Some people will do anything, I guess. It's no crazier than the trend of wiring people's jaws together in the 1980s. It won't work any better, though; jaw-wiring patients found that they could take in just as many calories in liquid form-- milkshakes, anyone?

OMG that is right up there with that diet fad wherein people get a gastro tube in their nose and are fed a liquid diet.....just gotta shake your huh and carry on right!

And you can only keep it on for a month. A personal trainer and a nutritionist would be much cheaper.

Once you reach the point you actually start considering such insanity, that's probably a good sign you should be seeing a psychiatrist to figure out what the REAL problem is.

Now I've heard everything! they sew a patch on your tongue that is abrasive so it makes it difficult , painful to eat solid foods so you'll only have a liquid diet!!!!! You can get an infection, ulcers, not approved by FDA, it will make you have difficulty in talking, trouble swallowing, will make you drool and oh yes it costs 2,000 dollars for the procedure!!!!!
I can't believe anyone would want to get this one done ...... but then again I can't believe a lot of things I see lately. They claim you'll lose 30lbs in a month, I think I'd rather do things the old fashion way then try something crazy....
