Thank you. I like those foods and want to eat healthy. I just didn't want to do something that would make matters worse.

I have had autoimmune hypothyroidism for at least 12 years. I think the question is more related to cruciferous vegetables and their ability to slow thyroid function and/or contribute to goiter - not to weight loss. I would think each patient is different, but it would seem that eating the same amount of them over a long period of time would help keep thyroid levels and thyroid medication dosages more stable. For instance, going on a month broccoli splurge might be healthy in other ways, but may affect thyroid levels. I'm not a doctor, but I sure have had to work on my nutrition, health and thyroid function.
Avoiding those foods for someone with hypothyroism is "not" an approved nutrition therapy technique. If you have questions about your diet, talk to your doctor. Most folks with hypothyroidism can follow a healthy diet that brings about weight loss or weight maintenance for an appropriate body weight.
I've read to avoid foods such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, turnips, sweet potatoes, peanuts and spinach. These contain goitrogens which are not good for hypothyroidism. Does this mean to avoid all of these foods, or can they be eaten if they are cooked?
