What time we eat doesn't make any difference to our ability to lose weight so long as we don't overeat. It is best to make sure you don't skip any meals and if you are like me, and find you need snacks, then have them. If you would like to have a peek at my nutrition tracker you will see that every night just before I go to bed I eat an evening snack of (generally) 150-200 calories - sometimes even more. I plan for this in my daily calories. Planning IS the important factor! I have lost a bucket-load of weight as you will see from my weight-ticker, AND I have been maintaining for nearly 3 years - even WITH those snacks!
