Keep a journal keeping track of when you feel like nibbleing on something. find your triggers-watching tv, reading, bored, because its "there", etc. then try to avoid the triggers. I found some of the distraction methods I used was the "trigger"! Drinking water doesn't always help-doesn't satisfy the craving to chew so perhaps try chewing gum or a breath mint.

When I feel the urge to munch (especially at night) I sip a cup of hot tea. You can drink any kind, but my fave is Salada decaf. I use a half packet of Truvia in it, and it helps keep me out of the fridge.

Something physical; engage your mind and your body. Yoga's one of my favorites; just about the worst thing you can do is sit in front of the TV... there's almost always food commercials on there! Checking the spark forums and reading articles, building up Sparkpoints is another good way to do it.
find something that absorbs your attention and do that. so if you have a favorite movie that you have to watch all the way through if you start it, watch that. if there is a book that once you start, you can't put it down, do that. cleaning projects, knitting, papier maiche, gardening, building a shelf, cleaning your tub, organizing your stamp collection, whatever it is that might hold your attention, do that. everyone is a little different in what works for them.
