My husband cut out diet drinks and ate more veggies, and his depression worsened. He needed more carbs, and was put back on any diet food that had Splenda in it, but not aspertame or that awful Stevia stuff, that really made him sick!! Some of that depression is related to not having enough carbs in your diet, your brain needs carbs!!

Some of us have depression because of heredity. I don't do diet anything period. If I'm going to have a soda, I have full lead! I try to cut back on the size of the soda. Mostly I drink water-lots of it. I do believe that diet stuff can cause depression - especially if it's overeaten or over-drank. I also know that it causes headaches-first hand. That was in the old days when I used to drink the occasional diet soda. I've never really been a fan of any diet drink. They all taste funny and emoticon leave a bad taste in my mouth.

It makes sense to me. Aspartame gives me massive, horrible, throbbing headaches, I learned recently. My father already had clinical depression but all he would drink was diet soda-the caffeine free kind-because of diabetes and hypertension, and Crystal Lite. I mean, very rarely would he drink water.
I challenge anyone who has depression to cut artificial sweeteners out, and eat more plants, and tell me if you still feel as depressed.

Haven't heard this. I do consume a lot of Splenda and I have depression, but I don't know if there is a correlation.

Has anyone heard that NIH has done a study and has linked diet sodas to depression......... here is an excerpt: people who drink four cans or more of soda daily are about 30 percent more likely to be diagnosed with depression than people who don't drink soda. Coffee drinkers are about 10 percent less likely to develop depression than people who don't drink coffee.

That is interesting, because for many years I have drank probably at least 3 sprite zeros per day..............and 8 days ago cut back to one per day. I have been depressed too, but never would have thought there was a correlation with it and soda.......very interesting.

Do not drink coffee, however I do drink tea and use Splenda........which I have cut back on as well.

Thoughts on the findings????
