Thanks for the encouragement. I thought to try to get rid of the stressors so I can concentrate on eating proper portions. the dietains I am working with are trying to help me with that. I will also bring it up to one of my doctors.

I was exhausted all the time. It takes a while to really adjust. I think it took me about 6 weeks. I have the full face mask as well. I need to change the cushion every so often. After a while it starts to leak and wakes me up. That is when I order a new one. Good luck. You won't be sorry you are using it. Just be patient with it.

Thank everyone for the replies. I was having a difficult time getting use to wearing the mask. I did talk to the rep and she ordered a full face mask because I wake up when I breathe through my mouth. My dog use to wake me up when I stopped breathing at night. Hal my dog still does when I breathe through my mouth and stop breathing, hence the full mask. I feel so much better since I have been reading these replies. I know the rep said I will always need the machine so I better adjust.

I don't remember exactly how long it took my husband to adjust, but he didn't think he would ever get used to it. Now he won't sleep without it.. I think it was a week or so before he started really liking it. Before that he kept pulling it off in his sleep.

well i am on a bipap- was off for a long while (long story) but now i am struggling to get back to it. i still have issues even on the machine. i am trying to get a ST machine that 'knows' when i stop breathing or drop below a certain rate. as of now- the machine just continues to blow air no matter what my body is doing... had another test- mixed apnea is worse than before the bipap rxd. drs will not rx the st unless a specific heart dx is documented. so now to connect with heart dr. i prefer the nasal pillows- swift fx set up. however when my settings are increased (per new test results) i do not know if these will work... the facility would not let me wear my own mask/headgrear :(( best luck for successful treatment to all.

I'm really not replying to your CPAP topic but I had an email that said you replied to my I Live to Pray post but I am unable to connect to it. I found you by doing a Message Board search.

There was a woman on YouTube wanting to have weight loss surgery and she said she didn't think she had ANY sleep apnea, but they MADE her have the test as part of getting ready for the surgery. She said she awoke 110 times during the test, so they made her get the CPAP and she couldn't believe what a HUGE difference it made in how she felt. She hadn't realized just how tired and weak she'd been, until she felt GOOD again.
I don't know how long you need to use it, but I do know that people who lose weight and get to a normal BMI don't have to keep using it, as I've heard MANY people say once they lost the weight they slept well again.
