And don't assume that you'll have withdrawal! I've given up sugar multiple times. One time I was kind of cranky the first day and one time I had some cravings for cake after a few days, but frankly the cravings and crankiness weren't any worse than I get when I'm *not* committed to avoiding sugar. Most times the only challenge is remembering not to accept the candy sample at Costco, or trying to figure out how to politely decline a gift.
I think the key is to supply yourself with lots of foods you like that just happen to be "clean." Stock up on fruit that you don't normally buy because it's "too expensive," and plan special desserts you can have that just happen to be free of refined sugar. If you give yourself something to look forward to, you won't miss the junk.
Does anyone know which of the clean eating teams get the most traffic? I do better when I can ask for encouragement during the rough times. I know cutting out processed foods and sugar will cause me to go through a withdrawal. Since I anticipate little to no support at home, it would be very helpful if I can whine or vent and have someone give me a pep talk or attitude adjustment. But I don't want to wait for a week for someone to respond! I plan to return the favor as soon as I have some success.
