sigh. I will take everyone's advice and not work out until the cough is "old". If it were a head cold, I have read that it is beneficial to exercise, but alas, when it is in the bronchi it can make things worse :( I really dislike being out of the game just when I was on a roll.

the lingering cough should be okay as long as your workout doesn't aggravate it. Listen to your body; if you start hacking away as soon as you try working your lungs a bit, stop (or at least go to something significantly less intense). If you feel good, go for it!
I've been on and off sick (just the cold and flu though) and I tried doing my cardio through all but the worst of it most times. I found it helped clear my sinuses (though i had to stop and blow my noes a *lot*) and helped me breath easier thereafter. Again, this was just a normal cold/flu, not a serious infection... and part of it was I *couldn't* stop going to school, so the energy boost + clearing of sinuses was a godsend for me.

Hi,

When one is sick, it is best to put weight loss on hold and go into maintenance mode so that your body is getting the calories and nutrients it needs to allow for a full recovery. As for when you can resuming your workouts, this would be best answered by your doctor who is in the best position to inform you based on his/her findings.

nooooooo :( ok, so next question... since lingering cough can go on for up to a couple of months after the actual acute infection subsides, when should I resume exercising? When the cough is just less of a nuisance, and my strength feels normal? I am assuming I don't have to wait until the entire cough is gone, right?

thanks! I really hope it isn't 3 weeks for me :( right now it is a low grade bronchitis, so hopefully if I stop everything right now, it will go away quickly. I will just have to be extra vigilant with my calories, my least favorite thing to do lol.

I'm so sorry. I just got over bronchitis. I was out for almost 3 weeks. But, you'll want to sit it out and stay on your healthy eating plan and get rest. If you rest, you'll hopefully get better faster. Oh, make sure that you drink plenty of water! emoticon

I have a chest cold, which means that with my productive cough, working out is contraindicated. (I originally was working out through it, but just happened to read up today that I shouldn't have been doing that, and it could cause me to prolong the infection). JUST when I was starting to enjoy working out, I am out! How can I keep my momentum up, and my weight loss on track when I have to sit on the sidelines until it clears :(
