Drinking a lot of water can dilute your electrolytes. Sweating also decreases them. That's one reason runners drink Gatorade.

I read up on them on the net and they said that a lack of calcium is a problem for them. So I would make sure you are getting enough of that. when I did that it helped me.

Sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night with a really bad cramp in my leg. It usually coincides with prolonged "slip-ups" in my eating habits... Heh. Usually eating enough fruits & veggies makes things better over the next few days (so it's probably a potassium deficiency, at least in my case). I think milk also has a decent amount of potassium too.

another drink option for potassium---is coconut water.

I used to get them in high school when i was deficient in several minerals. I added more potassium and magnesium and they went away.

A simple blood test will do the trick. Usually low in Potassium, maybe Magnesium. You can then just Google foods high in whatever you are low in, and consume more of them.

You would be amazed at foods that have a ton of Potassium. Health Choice steamers, or Healthy Request Chunky soup are loaded. Also many fruits/ veggies.

Are you stretching adequately before and after workouts.

Electrolytes are involved with muscle contraction and relaxation. Potassium is the one that usuallyis referenced. Are you getting at least 5-7 servings of fruits and veggies daily?

If it continues, contact your doctor.

I've found I get these more when I'm low on potassium. A banana a day keeps the cramps away!
