Walking IS a form of cardio exercise.

Walking is an excellent place to start exercising - it's moderate in intensity and requires no specialized training, fancy equipment or expensive memberships.

Many people may progress from there to more intensive forms of exercise, but that is optional.

But just know that proper nutrition and strength training both trump cardio when it comes to fat loss.

I would follow doctors orders and just walk. I would also ask him why he suggested just walking and let him know what you want to do. He may say it's OK to do it, or he may explain why it is not OK.

my doctor suggests walking but cardio helps lose weight faster. Do I ignore him and go for it or take the long safe route?
