A heart rate monitor will give you an estimate of calories burned during cardio exercise, but it's not going to be accurate for strength training or other activities like yoga. Here's an Ask the Expert that gives our suggestions for how to track DVDs:

I am new here and wondering how to calculate calories burned? I have been using Pilates/ Yoga Fusion DVDs and not sure how to calculate this activity. Is there a device I need to purchase that calculates calories burned during an activity?

Thank you in advance!
