Your body can't use caffeine as fuel, and the really interesting thing about caffeine is that we build tolerance to it incredibly fast. Caffeine speeds up the metabolism very, very slightly-- but basically only the first few times you use it. When studies have been done on caffeine and metabolism, they found it only worked for people who had never used it before. When they managed to find people who were completely new to caffeine, they burned something like 4 calories an hour more for the first four or five days, and after that the effect totally disappeared.
So the general rule about caffeine and weight loss is that if you already use it and like it, go ahead. You don't have to give up you daily cup of coffee. But if you don't, there's no reason to start.

I have always wondered if you drink a lot of caffeine(every 3 hours or so), does your body use the caffeine as fuel instead of using fat as fuel? I have never read anything to support this nor deny it and it makes sense to me.....thoughts anybody?

Nope. Like Jenni said, once you're adapted to caffeine (happens within the first couple of weeks), it has no effect. What I will add though is that coffee is a great way for many people add a bunch of empty calories in the form of cream and sugar to their diet. THOSE items can definitely adversely effect weight loss efforts.

I'm an avid coffee drinker and I haven't had any issues with it. Granted, it isn't the same for everyone, so don't start drinking it more regularly if you aren't used to it.

Probably not. Caffeine is a stimulant, so some people think it makes them hungrier and many others find that it actually suppresses appetite. In fact, that's what they put in scam "weight loss" supplements-- it doesn't really work, but it makes people feel odd and they believe they must be losing weight.
The supplements use huge amounts of caffeine. The amount in powdered coffee is tiny by comparison. A cup of coffee every few days probably won't affect you in any way. If you like it and it makes you feel better, don't worry about it.

Does coffee affect weight loss efforts ? I use 3 in 1 coffee sachet to make a cup of coffee when I am too tired. It happens every 4-5 days. Does it affect weight loss efforts?
