As the saying goes, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Start with tracking your calories, and make that a habit. Eat more fruits and vegetables, exercise just a little bit more than you did the day before. You can do it!
Burning fat is an all-body process, and you can't target where you lose weight from. Energy is delivered to the muscles via the bloodstream, NOT from being absorbed from surrounding fat stores. You don't need to do arm or belly exercises - anything you do to reduce fat will reduce it in these areas too.
For most people, losing weight is 80% nutrition, and just 20% exercise. So one of the best places to start is just tracking your food for a week or two. This can really help identify where your calories are coming from, and where you might be able to knock out a few hundred calories without feeling deprived.
In terms of exercise, definitely talk to your doctor about what you can do safely, but slow walking does sound like a good place to start. But as with most exercise, it doesn't matter so much WHAT you do, just that you do it regularly. M@L

Walking is a good start. Start off with baby steps...don't try to change everything at once. Pick one thing...walking three times a week, stop drinking soda, eat one more piece of fruit each day.
i am beginning again. I don;t know where to begin! I have so many health issues I have to be careful and start slowly. With copd and heart problems walking is a slow means of beginning. I would like to get rid of my FLABBY upper arms & belly fat. Any suggestions?
