The others have pointed out the reason for this. I also would encourage you to let go of your attachment to the scale. It is just one measurement. I do hope you are incorporating strength training and if so, increases in muscle mass may cancel out fat losses on the scale. The end result is that you might weigh more than you expected but fit in smaller sizes. And since muscle tissue boosts your metabolism, it's definitely worthwhile.
I happens to me too whenever I get back to a regular routine after a break. It is super frustrating so I do my best to avoid the scale the first couple of weeks. Eventually it drops off and then the losing begins, yay!

What you're experiencing really is perfectly normal. It's nothing more than water retention. Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ? Most women tend to gain weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope, it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days.
When you workout intensely, your muscle fibers soak up water like a sponge. This is what they are supposed to do. your muscles will release any excess water they don't need once they've adapted to the new routine.
You're going to see many ups and downs on the scale as you lose. And that is perfectly normal. I can easily gain or lose as much as 3-4 pounds in a day because of water weight. No need to worry. it's normal.

This is completely normal, and a common reaction to a new fitness routine.
With that said, yes, you need to be paying attention to the food you eat. You can't out exercise a bad diet. You can still gain or not lose weight while exercising if you're eating too much. Weight loss happens in the kitchen... not the gym.

I just posted about this, and it happened to me.. and apparently everyone else too lol... it is likely retained water... when you're muscles start moving, and you begin working out, your body responds to the demands by retaining water for increased energy needs. After 2-4 weeks, the retained water should begin to let go, and the scale goes down :) The scale just finally moved for me this morning, over 2 weeks after starting a fitness/diet regime

Goal 1: 160lbs by May 15 (breast reduction day!) Goal 2: 150 by July 1 (summer!!) Goal 3: 135-140 by December 1 (ultimate goal weight)
Has this happened to anyone else... I had slacked off on exercising and then when I started back regular (4-5times a week) the scale goes up... not just 1-2lbs but like 3-4lbs! Then it didn't just go back down it's sticking around. :(
I just feel helpless... I'm wondering if I should be paying MORE attention to my diet, and then slowly incorporate exercise back in.
Oh and the workouts I did were Turbo Fire, Fire30 & HIIT15, alternating days. Sundays & Wednesdays off.
