I tried to do the once a week weigh-ins and I couldn't handle it. I was too much of a nervous wreck to find out what happened over that *long, long* week. So I started weighing every day first thing in the morning before I eat or drink anything. I haven't experienced any weight fluctuation this way, other than when it's due to hormones (even then, it only shows up as 1 lbs up). I like to weigh every day because then nothing can "sneak up on me". It's more psychological than anything else. I don't like surprises.
I've given up the scale for a month. I agree that it controls me too much!

I have not stepped on the scale since I started. It has derailed me in the past, so I am avoiding the scale. Instead, I measure myself once a month. I am seeing results through the measurements which helps me stay on track .
I weigh in every day but I keep in mind that weight fluctuates daily, and I don't let what the scale says dictate my mood anymore. If I can't weigh in on a day (like today because I'm actually visiting family) it's no big deal. I just do what I was doing, and I'll weigh in when I get a chance.

I'm trying to find other measures of progress right now, though I normally weigh twice a week. I don't want that single number to define me.
I step on it once a month unless I am in some kind of contest. the contraption doesn't give the full picture anyway. It doesn't tell me how my other numbers are rounding out and those are more important to me than a number that fluctuates at every turn.
