I occasionally take a caffeine pill in the morning as coffee kicks up my reflux, and I've read that it's postulated that other chemicals in coffee actually blunt the effects of the caffeine. Caffeine has an appetite suppressant effect, as well as being a mild bronchodilator and promoting the release of free fatty acids in the bloodstream (so if you do cardio you will burn more fat doing it if you dose with caffeine a bit first).

Exercise, at the right level, has an appetite suppressant effect on some people, as does a higher protein intake.

According to Martin Berkhan, cayenne pepper is also known to suppress appetite. Some people find that chewing gum helps suppress their appetite. Cinnamon is occasionally said to have appetite suppressant qualities, though the study I got referred to at ajcn.org says it had no notable effect on satiety but did lower postprandial glucose response which probably means it helps reduce cravings, not appetite.

I personally wouldn't consider taking "drug" appetite suppressants or "supplement" appetite suppressants/fat burners/whatever. So I can't really say I know much of anything about them.

Turc: I know exactly what you mean. I don't feel the need to eat, I just want that one taste here and there of the good foods. -But!- it doesn't protect against emotional eating. I've been having little emotional cheats all week long on account of all the drama going on in my life, but it keeps me from going crazy with the quantities like I would normally.

Eventually with phentermine there comes a point where you build up a tolerance and it doesnt make you not-hungry as much anymore. The doctor I'm seeing is standing by with a different drug in the same family that they switch patients to as standard practice when the phentermine stops working. So there's a safety net there, to some extent. I can't speak to any sort of addiction to this, as it doesn't seem to have any "high" to go with it, and the side effects can be rather inconvenient. Insomnia and in some cases, a mild version of the dreaded e.d. (oh snap!) Just an advisory that you might not want to plan any romantic getaways until you know how the meds affect you.

So far, yes. They work. Phentermine, for me. Beauty of them is that I feel full before I eat, so portion control is no problem. AND I enjoy the foods I love. Like 1 potato chip or 1 tortilla chip or 1 m&m. All I want now is the flavor - not the volume. No more cravings. Loving it so far.

I am concerned about dependence. Not sure what that would entail. I feel like I am taking a pretty big risk- but I need some help to get the needle moving. I am always way too hungry.

Do they work? Probably. Just like any drug, there are side effects and you develop a tolerance to them so it requires a higher dose for the same effect and of course, the possibility of addiction.

Try water flavored with fruit that you eat as you drink.

Water and a quick set of exercise (pushups, situps maybe a walk if I have time). If I am at work and getting hungry at odd times, i drink water. It usually cures the hunger until my next scheduled feeding!

Im taking phentermine right now and it works fantastic. Suppresses your appetite all day long with one pill. You have to go to a weight loss doctor for the treatment plan, and it isn't covered by any insurance, just fyi. But it's also not all that expensive in the long run because what you spend on doctor visits you save on food.

Warning though, it may cause insomnia so keep the benadryl or melatonin handy. And it may, uh, mess up your sex life for a little while, if you get my meaning, but it's still totally worth it for the lifetime of better sex you'll have afterward.

My Dr prescribed phentermine and it seems to work. I know a few people here at work who have used it and it has helped them lose 50+ lbs.

Anyone ever use an appetite suppressant? What's safe? Thinking of using one for when I get out of work and turn into a mad man about food.
