I started zumba a year and a half ago. I started with the Wii, Zumba 2. It has a "learn the steps" option. I went through all the steps but didn't get them all right. Then I decided it would be more fun learning as I'm doing the routines. So I started with individual songs, doing 2-3 a day. then I jumped into the 20 min routines and gradually worked my way up from low intensity to high intensity, and all the way up to 1 hr routines. When I started I wasn't that great at doing it and could hardly keep up. I had to make modifications, working slower, only doing leg movements - no arms, no jumping and just taking breaks when I needed to. Gradually I was able to pretty much keep up with all the movements but it took over a year to get there. I'm pretty good at zumba now and I also have the 7-set DVDs. (there is a "step by step DVD to learn the moves as well as a 'verbal cues" mode.) I've lost about 30 lbs since I stared zumba and that helped my "skill level" a lot too. And by the way, if anyone thinks they're too old, I started zumba just before my 61st birthday. I love zumba!
I just started Zumba using dvd's. It is some workout!

Zumba really burns the calories and I have to laugh at myself when Sonia teaches us something new. But guess what, others are struggling to learn the new moves too and they don't even notice when I misstep. It is so much fun and I am soaking wet when finished so I know I have burned calories. I go straight to the treadmill when Zumba is over and walk for 30 minutes. It feels good to know you have done the right thing.

I have never taken a formal Zumba class, but I do have it for my Wii. I was at our Wellness Centre here and they had a sign up for Aqua Zumba, so I signed up! First class is this Friday, and I can hardly wait! Looking forward to a good workout!

I too was nervous about going my first time and now it has been over a year and I am so hooked. Just starting Zumba toning, and it is great.. I feel so stress free when I Zumba! I sleep better too! I always look forward to my class and definitely puts me in a good mood. Keep up the Zumba!!:}

So I tried my first Zumba class tonight, and it was SO much fun! I recently bought some Zumba DVDs, and the 2 newer Zumba Kinect games. Let me tell you- the live class is so much easier to follow along with! I was really nervous to go and ended up having so much fun!
I guess I'm just kind of posting this to encourage people- if you've ever thought about trying it- DO IT! I was tired and had a stressful day and didn't want to go- but decided at the last minute to give it a try and I did not regret it!
:) I burned 450 calories in 45 minutes, and at certain points I probably wasn't burning as many calories as I could have been because I was still trying to figure out all the moves. But my average heart rate was 161, and I can honestly say I had fun the entire time. I'm looking forward to going to more classes and hopefully burning even more calories as I figure out the moves a little better.
