LOVE4KITTIES: That number 2 of yours sounds like a dandy!

PTREE15: LOL! You would not have liked the food shows I watched last night as I was spinning. I watched two hours of shows that were just about bacon -- restaurants that put bacon in almost all their offerings, and restaurants that had recipes with different kinds of flavored bacon, etc. I loved it. LOL!

And upstairs in the frig I had 4 boxes of precooked bacon set-aside for the next couple of weeks when neighbors and friends keep giving us home grown tomatoes. But I did not eat any bacon, despite how tempting it was. By the way, I really love good chocolate covered bacon.

RE: the meat ads (especially anything to with bacon, lol)...I'm a vegan, so those ads just generally gross me out. :D

I dislike them ALL. Usually, I fast forward through them. Had the misfortune of seeing these two in the past week:

1. Mayo commercial. They show a woman smothering chicken (breast, I think) in mayo and then putting cheese on top of that before baking. Seriously!? I am repulsed by the idea of smothering a chicken breast with mayo. Also, of course it was the wife doing the cooking...

2. 1-800-DENTIST commercial. Two women (sitting on exercise mats in front of the TV). The woman on the left is a little out of shape and a little overweight. She looks a little frumpy. She says she was eating popcorn (I think) and broke a tooth. She says she asked her friend if she knew a good dentist. Evidently, the friend (sitting to her right, very in shape) said she didn't and also told her, "that's what you get for eating carbs." The entire commercial just makes me so irritated.

"The American Express commercial where the androgynous woman needs a template of a template. And then is in a record store and ruins a vintage record by taking a bite out it.

Anything with Honey Boo Boo and her family. "

Say it isn't so? I kinda like that one. It's targeting a pretty narrow audience (fans of Portlandia on IFC). In fact, it's pretty much just a :30 episode of Portlandia. As funny as I think it is, you gotta wonder about a marketing campaign that's riffing off a relatively obscure TV show that's on a rather obscure cable network that's not even available on most "basic" tiers.

Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, especially when the network's tagline is "Always on. Slightly off."

As for Honey Boo Boo, not even a mild defense from me on that one.

I love commercials that catch your attention. I only watch the Superbowl for the new commercials and the half-time show. I loved the car commercial with the little boy dressed up like Darth Vader.

The commercials that annoy me the most are the food commercials. I don't need the constant reminder that that crap tastes so good and is so easy for me to go get it. It's like waving a bottle of booze in front of an alcoholic.

1) Any feminine hygiene ad. If you need that stuff your know what to get. It really has not changed in 70 years.
2) The tax attorneys offering to settle your tax debts. If you have income or assets. it is not going to happen. If you do not have income or assets, call the IRS yourself and they will help you.
3) The Charmin commercial with the bears that was already mentioned.
4) A new toilet tissue commercial that insists that you need to add wipes to your personal hygiene routine. Soon they will have commercials for the rectal cancer caused by the wipes.

So many more. However, I never fail to laugh out loud at the Geico (I think) commercial with the camel asking what day it is. The product is of no concern but the camel is hilarious. It may be due to a commercial that our local zoo had years back. All the animals talked as if they were movie stars. It was also funny.

3 ) Depression pills with a side effect of chance of suicide. worked great!!

PTREE15 : {I will confess that when it comes to meat ads, such as Golden Corral advertising prime rib and jumbo shrimp or a restaurant chain such as Outback, Applebee's, or Ruby Tuesday's advertising a steak special, or Famous Dave's advertising baby-back ribs, I am a captive audience.}

My wife shared with me an ad, or actually a series of ads, that she absolutely abhors: anything to do with a pig such as its being on a plane, speeding in car and getting pulled over by a policeman, or being driven home by a housewife. I sort of liked the one where the piggy is singing as a woman drives it home. My wife HATES that ad.

Lately, I'm hating the one where the teen girl is chewing out her mom for washing her jeans. I don't even know what product it's for, but it's annoying because both the teen and mom sound like they are reading off of cue cards, plus I can't stand that whining.

All of the Sensa ads. It kills me that people fall for these "magic sprinkles" and think they work. They make it seem like all you have to do is put magic sprinkles on your food and you'll stop being fat. What a scam.

Ah, all those ab thingies such as "Ab-Energizer," "Ab Rocker, "Fast Abs," "The AbTronic," "Ab Glider," "Ab Roller," "Ab Coaster," etc, etc.

Have you ever noticed that the people who advertise them are fit EVERYWHERE. That is, people who are lean and muscular are used to advertise ab machines. They have low body fat %, etc. None of that is connected to their spiel that we can spot reduce one area of our body by doing a few minutes of an ab workout.

And the real clincher is when the people using the machines say things like "It's easy" and "It's fun" and "Only a few minutes a week," etc. For all of us who have done strength-training or planks or hanging abs or any type of exercising to try to tone or work on the core, we know there is nothing "easy" about it.

Great idea for a thread.

Political ads. I live in a battleground state where statewide elections are hotly contested and attract a lot of attention from national media and groups. Oh, I hate those lies! I find myself talking back to them, making disparaging comments.

My husband mutes all ads, but when he leaves the room, you hear the nonsense. The ads for pills to get men to get "up" are so sickening and sweety, yuck. We laugh at them. Even with no sound. Meds ads, they think all the disclaimers will make someone want to take the darned meds, pooh on them. Weight loss ads, which should have a law showing the person every 6 months for the rest of their lives, because they won't look the same way, period!! Exercise machine ads, with already fit models, pretending that "anyone" can become that way using some cheap rubber maching. Car ads are lying, tiny disclaimers going by so fast, no one can read them, that should be outlawed, too.

Anything that involves a whole lot of overly-exuberant dancing to demonstrate the reliability of any feminine hygiene or adult incontinence product. (ie Tena Twist. YEAH I GET IT. Sheesh. For your viewing horror, www.tena.ca/english/women/tena-twist-home1
/the-unexpected-leak1/commercials/noth
ing-is-missed-15/
)

Also not a fan of "exploding food" i.e. pizza pocket ads that involve biting into one and having it explode cheese and sauce all over your face, or the soup commercial that shows slow-motion crackers-being-dropped-into-soup, making a splashing tomato-soup mess. Sorry, a food's ability to spew all over my face/clothes/counter/floor is really not a *selling* point, for me.

In UK we have some payday loan companies that charge over 2000% apr. Wonga is one that regularly advertises using puppets of old people to make it out to be such a good deal. It's just preying on people who are already in need, so the ads make me angry.

Also Go Compare - though at least they have realised how annoying their ads are and now make a joke of it.

Yes, I watch too much TV; however, in my defense, I watch/listen to a lot of it while spinning on my Airdyne or at the computer, where I have a TV on the top shelf of my computer cart.

OK, here are some of my most disliked ads:
(1) Tax lawyers who tell you if you owe taxes to the IRS, they can get you off with just paying a few hundred even if you owe thousands.
(2) I am soooooooo sick of all the car-insurance ads; particularly Flo and Progressive.
(3) Beer ads that show slim, beautiful men and women enjoying drinking beer, whereas in real life, most beer drinkers I know are overweight and definitely are not beautiful and fit.
(4) Almost all political ads where all the ad does is belittle the opponent, accentuating smearing over actually giving important points.
(5) Dish TV and DirecTV constantly telling us why the other "lies" and why theirs is so much better.

Ok, what are some of yours?
