of course, on the flip side-I remember seeing pics of my grandma in a sanatorium-that's where people with TB had to go if they were active!

Medicine's come a long way and I love our modern conveniences, but I hear what you mean when you talk about 'neighbors being neighbors' and everyone looking after one another-like family

I remember all the happy things mentioned already.

I also recall when there were no security screening at airports, when I was employed as an Airline Hostess and each tray I served had a mini-pack of cigarettes. It was not against the law to smoke anywhere.

You had to walk back and forth to school. Up and down hills, no matter what the weather was. My daughter gets a ride and we live 10 minutes from her school.

you actually ate most meals together as a family. And the table talk, about the "good ole days" was referring to the decade of the Depression.

you ever saw/were a child in a one-room school house...I went for part of first grade and then it closed...we made soup/had PBJ's together...there were no 'free & reduced lunches'....we all wore Wrangler's/Lee's/Levi's...nothing more 'designer' than that! emoticon

Gas was 25 cents a gallon. People said, "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays". Children were "in trouble" if their teacher called home.

Kurt Russell/David Cassidy were my 'teen idols'...
we took baths once a week-whether we needed them or not!...had a plug-in heater/mom heated H20 on the woodburning stove-Mom/I bathed first, since we supposedly were 'cleaner'...the water was only changed once-for 6 people!
The Sears/Roebuck catalog had purposes OTHER than reading if it ended up in the outhouse!!!
There were no Walmarts
A & W was THE fast-food joint
haircuts were done at home
there was no shopping on Sundays
Transistor radios were cool!

When I was growing up on a farm, in New Jersey, I still remember the outhouse (and I'm only 62). I remember when my dad built a bathroom on the house and we had indoor plumbing. I also remember that the only way we had water was to pump the handle in the kitchen sink, (before the bathroom was added) and the only source of heat was the wood stove in the kitchen and mom used to put the PJ's on top over the stove and warm them, then we'd jump in them and run upstaairs to a very cold bedroom in the winter.
Fun to remember but glad & thankful that I don't have to live that way now.

Have a great week and thanks for the memories!
