Skip the weights and add short bursts of speed to your walks instead.

All they do is stress joints. I'd skip the vest, too; it would be like adding obese-type weight, which also stresses joints. Best to learn to move the body you have! a bit faster, a bit as who you are.

Skip the weights. Not only are 3 lb weights probably ineffective for any actual strength training, they can throw you off balance and risk injury. They're not safe, nor effective.

If you'd like to "tone", lift weights. You'll look and feel better. And skip the "high reps, low weight" myth... it's a waste of time! Don't be afraid to lift heavy!

You're better off wearing a weighted vest. Ankle and wrist weights can interfere with your normal walking motion and cause injury.

I concur with the other posters. If you are strapping them on, they can hurt your joints.

I used to do this as a teenager... come to find out, it is not good for the joints and such.

No it doesn't. It's supposed to be not good for you to use the weights that you strap onto your ankles & wrists.

Does adding 3 lb. weights to your wrists or ankles while walking helps tone your legs or arms?
