I am a big believe in putting yourself on the list of things to take care of. Eating a clean diet is important for me. I eat lots of veggies and one fruit a day. I also eat lean meats and 1 whole grain a day. I also am a HUGH believer in working out. I so do love my weight lifting classes. I am 57 and today at my spin class I was told that I did not look my age they thought I was younger.

I've been off for quite awhile and gained back the weight I lost. :(, But I'm back and going to try again. I think what was most important for me before was the Nutrition Tracker, and be sure to look at your stats at the end of the day. It gives you an idea what's lacking in your diet. For me, I have to fight to get enough protein and certain minerals. Also, customize your meal plans; i am worried about my blood pressure and heart health so my meal plan is low sodium and high in whole foods.

I really didn't lose much last time, but what was amazing was that it reduced inflammation. My chronic pain receded, I looked better and less puffy in the eyes. I had waaay more energy.

So I'm back after tonight. Wish me luck!

I am using Jenny Craig to get started, feel if I can stick to that for a couple months I will get back to being able to control my portions. I eat healthy, just to much. I am just starting today and will lose 40lbs! Staying active is also very important.

I'm reading "The Diabetes Diet" by Richard Bernstein MD and recommend his lectures on YouTube.

He is a Type 1 diabetic and has been since age 12. He is 78 now. I don't have diabetes yet, but I'm reading his book because I don't want it.

Personally (and I'm 57) I've found the Nutrition Tracker to be the absolute, number one thing. Losing weight is more what we eat, than what we do. So it's important to stay within our calorie ranges, and fill the day with healthy, nutritious food. That said, cardio and strength training are also important. But you just cannot out-exercise a bad diet.

The thing about exercise is, it will get that metabolism going again. Takes a little time, but it WILL get going. I had spent years not exercising at all and it seemed my metabolism was so slow, it was comatose. And the strength training is important, because we start losing muscle every year, if we don't actively work at it. Won't "bulk" you up, I don't know why women always worry about bulking up. I've been at it for a while now, and I don't look "manly" or anything.
