Today's "Control Portions" message reminded me that when I was a child, a soft drink was 6 ounces, and nobody ever had two, so why do people drink a 12-ounce one today? Brainwashing, that's why. If you constantly see a thin, athletic young woman drinking straight from a huge bottle, you get to think that's normal.
I used to live in Mexico, and there it's even worse: the model would be guzzling from a one-litre (32 oz) bottle of Coke!
Luckily, I'm from a generation that considered soft drinks as special treats -- we were not allowed Coca Cola, only the occasional Seven Up or Orange Crush! Now I have maybe two soft drinks a year, so at least that's not something I have to cut out to lose weight. That must be hard to do if you're addicted.
