Probably what you are looking for is a heart rate monitor that has a hiking function on it. My cycling computer heart rate monitor has that type of function where you can use it as a wrist watch also. It's around $150.

I use a BodyMedia for life in General. For exercise, it depends on what I am doing. I have a Polar HRM for general cardio and a Garmin Forerunner for running. I don't count on Body Media for exercise because it monitors activity and doesn't differentiate that from planned exercise.

garmin 210..tracks my distance, pace, time, splits, calories burned and optional HRM, which I don't own.

I've been trying to figure out what tracking device would work best for me considering I want one device to do it all. Track my calories burned, step count, distance and also has a heart rate monitor. I've done research online and the reviews for most of the ones I've actually heard of were conflicting. Where one site said a certain device was well worth the price, another said ehhh don't waste your money. Others had mobile apps that were full of bugs. So I'm wondering if any of you actually use a device that offers everything I'm wanting and would recommend it.
