My parents' house. It's only a couple blocks away but, especially this time of year, I drive. I think I'll change that. Thanks for bringing it to my attention :)

From my house? Nowhere because I am way in the country!

Kroger! I'm within a stone throw's reach from it, but I usually drive because I have so many groceries, it's hard to carry with a 3 year old.

The drugstore. Most of the time when I go to the drugstore it's for something I need at the last minute if I'm in some kind of rush. It's not even a mile up the street from my house, but to get to it I'd have to cross a very, very busy road where a lot of pedestrians have gotten hit in the past, so it's easier (and much safer) to drive up there.

In most cases shopping but it is carrying the bag back, not the weight but the number of them

My nearest friend is a mile away, & I'd love to be able to walk there, but I'd have to cross a major highway and can not take the risk.

I could probably walk to the Blockbuster if the weather permitted it.

I could walk to pick up my granddaughter from kindergarten. It's just a little over a mile. I did it once when hubby didn't get back with the car on time. Some of the things keeping me from doing it are: the 2 year old is usually napping and I want to get back in time to be there when she wakes up as hubby doesn't do diapers; if she isn't napping, I'd have to take her in the stroller; the 6 year old might have trouble with the distance and I might have trouble keeping both kids safe with all the traffic. The little one would want to walk if the older one is walking and that would make safety more difficult. When the weather is bad I'm not sure I'd want all 3 of us or 2 of us out in it. The school wants you to commit and not change back day to day; they want walkers to be walker and riders to be riders. So I'll probably keep driving, but I'll give it more thought.

The post office, but it's usually one of the many errands I have to accomplish within a timeframe.

The gym. On nice, spring or summer days I typically do walk to the gym and then do strength training and walk home. In the winter it is just easier to drive, do cardio & strength, and then drive home especially if it is after work as it is dark out and I would not want to walk by myself.

I live out in the country...so I can only walk for my pleasure. Too far from town, work, church, etc

I try to walk to Church if I'm ready in time. It's about 1.1 miles each way (but I sometimes get a lift home!)

church. But my physical therapist will not allow me to walk any distance after I had surgery on my foot last year.

Nowhere really. I live kind of in the middle of nowhere... in fact the Walk Score for my home is zero LOL. My work is appoximately 35 miles from my house. When I lived in a big city I walked everywhere though... even work despite having a car. I only used the car for when I needed to go to stores like Target or get somewhere quickly.

To lunch or pick up some things I need for home during my lunch hour.

Work is only about a mile from my home so I could walk but so far I never have. Probably the main reason is to save time, especially because I love that I can go home for lunch and get some housework done during that time, and just the walking there and back would take up half of my lunch hour. The last few months it hasn't really been practical either with the winter weather and slippery sidewalks. I think sometime I will probably try walking when the weather is nice and I don't have much else to do, but I don't see it happening on a regular basis.

I've lived in cities and walked everywhere. Used to carry groceries up ten flights of stairs in Rome (city of hills, definitely). Now, I'm in the suburbs and would love to walk - wouldn't be so terribly far to walk to work even, but there are no sidewalks, streets are narrow and cars drive fast. I just don't feel safe. Can't walk to get back to a place with sidewalks. There's only one road I can walk on here and the truck traffic makes it highly unpleasant. I still walk it, but it's not fun.

I live in the country-- there is literally nothing within a couple miles of my house, to walk to.

I DO park farther from the stores, work, etc and get in as much walking as I can.

I grew up in NYC and walked everywhere. Grocery shopping almost a mile away...we carried 30 lbs home. A lifetime ago, I moved to NJ. Cars everywhere. People struggle to get parking 40 ft from an entrance. Now I wouldn't think to go shopping almost a mile away and carry 15+ lbs home. (did it once...it wasn't pretty).

As you consider the answer to this question, ask yourself if you might just change that habit! You'll save gas and money, help reduce emissions added by driving and add exercise to your routine.

By simply do this, you will also help increase your activity level thus increasing your energy and get you motivated to do more and thereby meet your goals and decrease your weight!

If you like this idea, add it to your goals today and see how things Work-Out!
