TACDGB, I agree! If Jillian Michael started in on my with that mean, snotty screaming, I'd get a good workout all right, I'd have to first smack her, then I'd have to try to run away before the police got there to arrest me. Hmmmm...that would be a good workout! LOL

I would appreciate a coach who is compassionate, presents a challening plan, and who is not a drill seargent. Postive speaking does wonders.

Hmmmm. Yeah, that's a tough one. I've never actually BEEN coached anywhere, but I know enough about myself that I thrive on recognition and positive attention. If I have a coach who gives me kudos for good results, I'm sure that would go along way to motivating me to continue to do well or even better. Sometimes, just knowing that someone else is observing or is involved in what you're doing gives me a huge boost to "perform" as well as I possibly can.
Edited to add: Among my fave DVD trainers is Richard Simmons. Nuff said.

The lovely Leslie Sansone encourages me with her possitivity and funnily enough with her constant chatter.I forget how many reps I've done.
Numbers............best motivator for reps and weight load.

I really don't know, I don't like being yelled at. I am self-motivated (if I want something) so haven't really experienced coaching in exercise or in sports.

a mix of the 2.
I've taken boot camp classes with 2 different instructors. One's class persona was very much the Drill Sgt (she wasn't like that at all outside of the class). After a few classes, she eased up a bit on the act.
the other one is very tough, but fair. All he asks is that you do your best. If you sandbag him, you are in BIG trouble!
my absolute favorite is somebody who can push you without you realizing what they are doing. That's tough, but I know a few people who can master it. My running partner pushed me to run a 10 min mile (I've always been a super slow runner. I have the endurance, but never could master the speed). She was never abusive, but she'd always kick it up at the end of our mile and we'd have a sprint race. When I looked at my watch I was elated to see that 9:54!!!
I do not want somebody pushing me to the point that I'm in tears. I push myself pretty darn hard. And if I don't feel like I'll be able to really put in the work, I won't take a spot in the class. I'll do something on my own.
Definitely nurturer. Being only 4' 10" and weighing almost 200 lbs., my ego is fragile, and it takes very little to shatter me completely. I don't need little pats on the head with empty words of "you can do it", but a real sharing of how difficult a day is, what I've eaten, sharing recipes and snack ideas....all things I can get on Spark. Without Spark, I would have a breakdown of sorts having someone treat me as badly and mean-spirited and even vile as (as an example) on Biggest Loser.
But what motivates me is completely different from countless others. Some people need the swift kick in the rear, and they can get fighting mad and do it.

Looking in the mirror every day, standing sideways...................
I have mixed feelings about types of coaching.... On one hand you want someone to really push you.... someone who will make you really work hard and stretch yourself. On the other hand, I push myself with someone who makes me feel that they believe in me...it makes Me believe in myself.
My question is: What type of trainer/buddy helps motivate you more and keeps you that way DRILL SERGEANT: someone who coaches you like Jillian Michaels and pushes you to test your limits
NURTURER: someone who encourages you to keep making SMALL steps at your own pace
