Reasons to lose weight ( or maintain and keep it off) by eating less and exercising more
1) prevents diseases such as heart disease, osteoperosis, kidney stones, and diabetes
2) exercise makes your heart and lungs work more efficiently which also helps fight lung diseases
3) to look nice in clothing (includes swimsuits!)
4) to feel energetic
5) to keep up with kids and grandkids
6) to have energy to enjoy really fun sports (water and snow skiing, hiking, swimming, dancing, team sports, etc.)
7) to relieve aches and pains from sore and stiff muscles
8) to increase muscle flexibility and strength
9) to feel confident after overcoming an obstacle such as losing weight
10) to be able to do hard, physical work around house, home, and garden
11) to meet new friends and try new activities such as yoga, ballet, pilates and other group activities
12) to try new foods (meats, fruits, legumes, vegetables) which are lean and expand my dining fare and improve my cooking


Those are a few of my reasons to lose weight, keep it off, and exercise. I am age 55 and have been exercising regularly for 43 years. Sugary treats are my vice (baked goods) and it is really hard to keep me away from cookies and ice cream. My motivation list above helps to keep me on track.

It's a beautiful summery Saturday morning and I want to wear one of my cute Lilly Pulitzer skirts today. Unfortunately I cannot because I've gained 20 lbs since last summer. :(

My husband and I are almost done with week 1 of the 17 Day Diet and I can already feel a difference in my clothing. Here's to hoping I can fit into at least one of my skirts or dresses by August!

I just want to know that I'm dropping fat even if I'm gaining muscle so the weight really doesn't matter at all. I know that I have a lot of belly fat to burn. So just getting tighter and feeling better about that.

I want to feel better physically and mentally. I'm 51 and want o enjoy the rest of my life. I love hiking, biking, and canyonneering. You can't do these things and be out of shape. Plus I want to keep up with my grand kids!

I want to loose weight for almost all of the reasons I just read (way too old for babies!). I started the journey to help my knees. One replacement last fall, one to be done in June. My surgeon suggested it and scared me enough to take it all the way. Kinda slow loss but I don't want to go back, feeling good, down 50#, blood pressure down, and movement easier. Long way to go but headed in the right direction!

I really need to focus on optimum health for me at any weight.
I learned the hard way earlier in life that bad habits have consequences and what you eat can be your poison or your miracle cure.
Now it's about doing what I can to make the rest of the journey as healthy as possible.

I am realizing how hard it is on my body to be carrying around this extra weight. It gotta go!!! I want to free up my body's energy to do other things than just carry around extra weight.

I try to write a reason to lose weight every day. When I am struggling with motivation, I pull out my list and by the time I get to the end of it, I have a little bit more motivation than when I pulled out the list. Thought this might be a good thread so we could scroll through multiple reasons to ignite the spark again!

My reason for today is so that it is a little easier bend over my shrinking belly and tie my tennis shoes!
