While it is true that ab workouts won't reduce belly fat or any fat for that matter, I still think they are very worthwhile for some people. In fact, for me personally, my ab routine is my most fun gym routine and it gets me out of bed in the morning to go to the gym when sometimes I would rather not get up. I credit my ab workout with keeping me motivated and on track fitness-wise. After all, strong abs allow you to do some really fun stuff. I would encourage anyone who is interested in fitness to push themselves to try new exercises until they find ones that are really fulfilling and FUN (this is why you'll never see me doing a plank - planks are not my definition of fun!). Who cares if it doesn't burn off belly fat anyway? Do it for the joy of it!

Firstly, it is worth remembering that all the ab workouts in the world won't reduce belly fat. Energy is delivered to the muscles via the bloodstream, NOT from being absorbed from surrounding fat stores.
So the only reason to work the abs is to strengthen the relevant muscles. Doing some sort of cadio-like workout of the abdominal muscles is a waste of your time, as it won't reduce abdominal fat, and it's not challenging enough to strengthen those muscles. For cardio, you are better off using the large muscles in your legs, as it will burn more calories, and work your heart and lungs harder.
Also, the abdominals are only a few smaller muscles. To maintain balance in your muscles, you should be aiming to work most of the core muscles - especially the back. Exercises such as planks work a much broader range of muscles, and are a far more effective core exericse.

i need to focus alot on my stomach and toning it. I had three kids within 6 years so I never focused on myself but i'm ready for change any good workouts i can use to tone my stomach and lose all this weight.
This is mine. It is a moderately advanced workout.
Hanging leg raises (knees locked, toes to bar) - 3 sets to failure Hanging diagonal raises (knees bent) - 1 set to failure per side (going to left, going to right) Dragon flag progression* - 2 sets of 6 Cable woodchopper - 2 sets of 6 per side (I do this with the cable at hip height)
*I don't have sufficient strength to do the whole exercise so I modify it to the most advanced stage in the progression that I can do.
When I get strong enough, I'll add hanging windshield wipers but I am so heavy that this is impossible for me right now. I'm trying to get my weight down to where I can do more stuff.
