White bread, pasta and rice. Pretty much have elminiated these from my diet and my home. Sometimes it can't be helped - restaurants, someone elses home etc. But, if I'm cooking it's whole grain.
The best part is that my hubby has also eliminated white bread (except for his bagels) and now only needs to take 2 sandwiches to work instead of 3 or 4. He's a construction worker so he gets really hungry througout the day. Whole grains has made him able to keep his hunger in check.
nothing! All in moderation and portion control. Being type 2 diabetic for only 2 years now I have learned to eat just what I need to but not miss out on treats once in a while. To give up on everything makes you want it more.
Ice Cream but if I really have to have it I just go out and get some sugarfree at an ice cream shop. I dont bring it into the house. For my lattes I just get a skinny and put sf syrup and cinnamon in it. I dont really eat fried foods, cant remember the last time I had any. And if the rest of the family wants a splurge for dinner I just make my own. Works for me!

White bread (except for the occasional sourdough!), white rice, coffee creamer, and most recently I'm starting to get rid of margarine from my diet and go back to good ol' natural butter from now on!

I can't say I've given up anything really - I generally eat super healthy and have for years. I don't eat fried foods, take out, candy, chips etc. So if I want it I eat it. My problem is portion control with cheese. I love the stuff and would eat an entire block given the chance. Thank heavens we don't usually ahve it in the house since I'm sensitive to dairy, but when it's there look out cheese here I come!

I can't say I have given up anything entirely. On the rare occasion that I eat fast food, I order their smallest burger, sans fries, with water. Chips and cake have always been my downfall. I still allow myself to treat myself to them once in awhile. But only ONE serving, or ONE piece, then be satisfied with that for a long while.

Eating after dinner no more munching in front of the tv for me! Also, baked goods unless I make them, pop (although I was never really big on it anyway) Alcohol, now I am working on giving up french vanilla cappucinos, that one seems to be tough for me, even tougher than when I quit smoking.
What I have Gotten back though is more energy, and a better attitude as well as a healthier body

I have completely given up sodas or any carbonated beverages since July of last year. Next I'd like to completely lose fried foods and fast food.

The only thing I have given up entirely is soda. I just don't need it in my body and it's easy to avoid. I love water and if I want something different or special to drink unsweetened iced tea does the trick for me!
I think that I can probably give up anything, except for my diet soda. I am trying to drink less of it, and drink more water, but I have no desire to give it up. LOL. I work at Outback Steakhouse and it is sooo hard not to munch on things throughout the night. We often will have food that they cannot sell and let us eat (cheese fries, bloomin onion). French fries are definitely my weakness!

Potato chips and fast food - 95% of the time they don't even sound appealing anymore :) And now delivery pizza since I can make my own healthier versions.
Just recently diet soda and I guess regular soda which I have never been a fan of anyhow. Now I only drink a natural, stevia sweetened soda occasionally. I also avoid hydrogenated oils. I guess I should mention that since I'm vegan any animal products, but I've been doing that for so long it doesn't even seem like something that I've given up and more like those foods are not even options anymore!

I did cut out a ton of processed, boxed/canned food, but the one thing that sticks out is red meat.
I didn't really do it intentionally. It started out because chicken was lower in cals. Then, one day, I had a steak and it just made my whole system feel sluggish and bogged down. It all just sat in mu gut for several days. Thinking it was a fluke I tried it again the next month...same thing.
I just don't crave the taste at all any more. Fish and chicken are much better now.
Fried food and fast food. I just feel a little ill now when I eat it. And white flour products - it's whole grain bread, bagels and pasta all the way. Now white flour products taste lacking and not as filling. For instance, store bought muffins don't even taste like *anything* any more - just air and sugar. Which makes it easier to avoid them.
I have given up diet Coke completely, and limit candy, cake, cookies, etc. to once in a while. I must say sometimes I lament these choices, but I realize that it is for the good of my waistline

Fast Food. It used to be a big part of my life when I was on the go constantly because it was 'easier' than making my own meal. Surprisingly it's not that hard to go without it. I haven't even thought about stopping at a drive-thru or ordering in chinese. It's amazing what good healthy food can do to a person :).

Fast Food. No more french fries, cheeseburgers, or tacos for me unless I make them at home. If I want that stuff I have sweet potato fries baked in the oven, turkey burger on whole wheat bun, or chicken tacos in a soft corn tortilla. And it really does taste a whole lot better than the greasy stuff.
High fructose corn syrup. NOT because its any worse for you than other sugars, but because its a marker for excessively processed food. Spaghetti sauce, bread, ketchup, yogurt, sour cream, etc, just don't need extra junk in them. And I can make most of them at home. Without additives.
Also, most palm oil. My daughter is a large primate keeper, and has made me aware of the impact that non-sustainable palm oil harvests have on the rain forests, and on the populations of orangutans, as well as the people who live in these areas. So I try to only buy palm oil-containing products only from companies that have committed to using only sustainably harvested palm oil.
Finally, any seafood that I don't know the origins of. I loooooove shrimp, and its so good for you, but if its not sustainably harvested, its one of the most environmentally and socially damaging foods out there.

Pasta salads and heavy cream sauces. I love macaroni salad (with mayo, etc) and alfredo sauces but since getting serious about changing my habits, I've lost my appetite for them.
Most processed foods like store bought bread (I bake my own using fresh ingredients and whole wheat), pretzels, salty things (have high blood pressure), also HFCS and a lot of added sugars, white flour. I find that I can make a lot of the foods I used to buy and the homemade taste soooo much better and are better for me!

Candy. I just took the quiz on halloween candy and failed horribly. But heck I thought it was great. I'm a label reader. I don't eat the stuff!!!
I LOVE Dr. Pepper and would always have some stocked at home and work. Now, I no longer drink any regular soda, and I no longer buy soda to keep at home or work. I do allow myself diet soda on "special" occasions--a fun dinner with friends or something. I've had like 24 ounces of diet soda total in the past month--so it doesn't happen often.

I no longer eat anything with hydrogenated oils in them. I have also pretty much given up deep fried foods. It's the one food group I just don't want anymore. We have TWO fry daddy's that we used to fire up for everything from fried chicken to jalapeno poppers and I haven't used those in almost 3 years now - actually retired them to the garage a couple of months ago. And, I very rarely eat chinese take-out anymore. That used to be a staple in our house, but haven't had a crab rangoon or any other fried junk in ages. We also replaced white sugar with splenda and white bread with whole grain.
Other than that, all other unhealthy food went into the "sometimes" category.

Sugars and starches. This does mean that I have to get my fiber from veggies instead of fruit and I go without bread and pasta, but it has been such an enormous blessing in terms of weightloss and health that the sacrifice is well worth it. I feel like I have my sweet tooth under control for the first time in my life. Who knew it would be this easy?
I think that 'sacrifice' is too loaded a word for this. 'Given up' is probably the better phrase. I have given up the things that were bad for me to improve my health. Some people suggest that sacrifice during dieting is a good way to fail, since you will miss those things too much. I feel like I am learning a new way of living, rather than just cutting back on the old way of dieing.

After learning I had high cholesterol, I started learning as much about it as I could and found that ice cream was one of my enemies. I used to have some every night, but have since replaced it with frozen fruit and juice bars. They aren't quite as enjoyable as ice cream but they are good, and have some fiber in them too.
Besides Girl Scout Cookies (which I've shown surprising moderation with now that I have 5 boxes in my kitchen), I've pretty much given up buying baked goods from stores. Cookies, snack cakes, etc. Sometimes I'll get them if the ingredient list reads like a recipe and not a chemical order (Trader Joe's has some great cookies made form real ingredients). Mostly I just make my own now, so I have to reaaaaallly want something in order to bake it.

We go out for Tex-Mex with a group of friends every Friday after work. I've banned myself from that innocuous little magically refilling bowl of tortilla chips. I think it is pretty rare that I ever actually WANTED the chips, but they are there, so I just graze on them for no real reason. I've started ordering ceviche when I sit down so I have something healthier to graze on.
I also ask for my margarita's to be made fresh, with agave nectar instead of simple syrup. (Not every place has the right fresh ingredients for this, but SO much better with fresh lime/agave/tequilla than when they use the pre-mix.)
Are there any foods that you used to eat that you found you have cut out pretty much entirely?
