Having a tumor that no one could classify and had never seen before. Cause unknown and everything unknown about it. I thought to myself... well I have consistently been a "bad eater" all my life. I should improve on that and enjoy exercise especially running. Which I couldn't do for years. I thought it was my "getting older" that made me feel so lethargic. I love to run now and feel so free without any consistent pain!

when I was having problems even walking the dog without gasping for breath - and then found a weight I had recorded five years earlier - and discovered how much I had gained - I decided that I needed to improve my health/menu

I got breast cancer, scary. Turns out a healthy weight can help keep it from coming back.
After all my treatments, I don't want to see a hospital or infusion, surgeon, self injectables, pills, ever again. As we age we start getting diseases, many of them preventable through diet and exercise. Wish I had started earlier, but now hope to avoid injecting with insulin (was injecting this thing to raise my white blood cell counts during chemo on a daily basis, and it sucked. Can't imagine doing it for life).

Actually, ONE of the big things was watching that HBO special The Weight of the Nation. It really opened my eyes to all the health risks and everything involved with being obese. I actually took a BMI calculation of myself, and at my weight and height (I'm only 5 foot) and weighing 209 pounds at the start of this, I am considered morbidly obese. That was really scary to me. I want to take steps now while I'm fairly young(I'm 31) so that I'm not in the same boat when I'm 41, 51, or 61.
The change of season. I feel more energetic now since sun is here. I am getting a sun lamp for next winter.

While trying to save my BFF from herself, it finally clicked with me what has been missing from my weight loss efforts in the past: support. I wouldn't let myself lean on others. She's lost 50+ # in 6 months (she also was unsuccessful like me for years) and it's because of the support she has found on here.
