Yes, the A1C blood test is indeed now used to diagnose whether you have diabetes, as well as to monitor how well your disease is controlled.
The A1C measures your average blood glucose level of the previous 3 months. There is some debate over when EXACTLY you are considered to be diabetic (pre-diabetic; borderline diabetic.... call it what you will) But if your A1C is in the sixes 6.0-6.9, (in my non-professional opinion) it is time to take action. If it is higher than the sixes, see a doctor & get on a treatment plan.
But it is not all doom & gloom! Your A1C WILL move down as your blood glucose gets under control. Some diabetics make it into the fives (5.0-5.9) but not everyone may be able to get to that point.
I think everyone who is at risk of diabetes should KNOW their A1C, and get it tested every 3 months. (again, in my non-professional opinion ;0) ASK for it to be tested if your Dr. doesn't suggest it if you are at risk.

THANKS FOR THAT LINK. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE TEST THAT WASN'T NEEDED AS OFTEN BUT HAVE BEEN POSTING MY DAILY GLUCOSE THERE NOW I HAVE RESET AND WILL GO GET A TEST AT THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT WHERE THEY ARE CHEAP! JEANNE IN GA
I did sign up for the diabetes group because it runs in my family and I'm probably pre-diabetic - borderline gestational diabetes when I was pregnant. I found out that I don't have to track my blood sugar to reach the team goals. So, now that I know that's what A1C is, I'll remove it from my goals. Thanks for your feedback!

Did you mistakenly sign up for the Diabetes program? That is a test for diabetics.
