I'd been working out regularly for 3+ years but didn't feel like I was making much progress, so I started taking a 6 a.m. exercise class on Mondays at the gym I go to in an effort to change things up (I'm also doing a spinning class at noon on Wed.). I really liked the guy teaching the class (he is also a personal trainer) and while I would love to be able to hire him as my personal trainer, I can't afford that, so I approached him after class one day to see if he would work up, for a fee, some exercise plans that I could do on my own. I told him I wanted to tone up everything, especially my arms and burn fat. He said he would be happy to do that and he has worked up three plans for me - arms, core, and total body and he worked with me on three different days to go over each plan so that I understood how to do the various exercises. It was the best $50 I've spent in a while!

I started with walking...30 minutes is great...but even sneaking in 5 or 10 minutes whenever you can adds up over time...

Start simple. When you're getting started, the important thing is consistency, not intensity. Build up a habit, and work from that, and build up your strength and endurance as you do so. If you jump into an intense boot camp class with no stamina, you're going to risk injury, burnout, and exhaustion. And you're going to dread it.
But start small, with a daily walk, and you're going to be incorporating exercise into your routine slowly! Make a plan. DOn't just "play it by ear", set goals and milestones, and earmarks for improvement.
For example, aim for a daily 10 minute walk. Doable, right? When you get used to that, say, for two weeks, increase it to 20 minutes. Once you've gotten used to that, 30. Throw in 10 minutes of strength training three times a week. Aim to do one new video a week.
Make your goals specific, measurable, and attainable. Bite sized chunks!
