Jet lag and cravings. I only had a few hours of sleep last night, so my appetite has been artificially revved up. I did go over my calories for the day, but only by about 150 cals.

Recovering from having 3 hernias repaired - day 3. Having a difficult time with pain management. I don't usually even take Tylenol. Everything I take seems to make me gassy and it hurts something fierce. Going to try and just use ice on it and see if that helps.

don't give up. I gained 4 pounds i9n one week . I was doing eveyrthing right . now I am keeping my calorie count closes to 1200 as I can. or no more than 1500. with the exercise I do it says I can have 2150 . I was consuming about 1500 to 1700 and didn't lose. but I feel better and move easier so the inches are coming off somewhere. one day I will be shocked. and the weight will show it too. keep trying healthy is much better than not. good luck keep going.

karusimjah-I know where you're coming from. I would simply tell her your weightloss journey to you is private and not open for discussion. She insists on bringing it up change the subject. You don't want anything to derail your efforts.

I am struggling with my age isn't that silly?

I woke up in a bad mood which is very unusual for me. I have a doctors appt. this morning to review all the tests he made me do and I'm a little nervous about that but that shouldn't put me in a bad mood. I hope I don't take it out on hubby when he gets up.

It does seem unfair doesn't it? You work so hard and she "cheats". But remember that you both did what you needed to do to get where you are. You have lots to be proud of. Be thankful that with her weight loss you'll have more time together. Maybe doing things like exercise together. She'll see that you've worked hard to get where you are and deserve all the kudos that are coming to you.

For me, I'm struggling with family members that could care less about losing weight and eat in front of me anything and everything they want while I sometime sit and feel sorry for myself because I can't eat like that anymore.

I have to remind myself that I want to be where you are! And it's worth it all in the long run!

the fact that I can not do exercise due to recent surgery

3/20/14 1:28 P

As someone who almost "cheated" myself, I do understand what you mean. I was all scheduled for a seminar at the bariatric surgeon's office, ready for surgery, until I found out I can't take my high doses of Advil I need daily for my severe spine arthritis. That eliminated both Lap Band and gastric sleeve. I was so upset, I felt like surgery was my last hope to ever conquer this weight thing. In my case, I get upset that I can't have the surgery when lots of other people can. But I do know where you're coming from, and your feelings are valid.

I'm struggling with losing weight. I stick to my ranges, do my physical therapy, but I have still only lost 5 pounds since re-starting Spark in mid-November. When I see all these other tickers at goal or far along, I'm really happy for the person, but it makes me want to cry for myself, you know?

Hang in there and do it your way. Yes, she cheated- but that was her decision. She has no right to preach. Be your own best friend.

What I am facing today? After beating cancer, so far - one year remission, I am facing my husband's obvious cancer tests and biopsy, waiting for the actual diagnosis. With my medical background, I know it is bleak. They are in no rush, since his initial blood tests tell the story.
I am trying to be positive for him and keep him upbeat, but I know how this will end.

Good for you for admitting that you feel bitter. That's the first step.

The second step is to ask if you are jealous that she was able to have surgery and you didn't or couldn't.

The third step is to assess these feelings in terms of your relationship with your sister. Do you feel like she has always had things easy? That she gets away with cheating? That she is treated better within the family? That she has always been gives special treatment/privileges etc?

IMHO, this is less about her weight loss or being the sudden expert then it is about your relationship with her.

Figure out the emotional garbage that you have with her so that you don't let it sabotage your efforts.

WLS is not cheating. It's a tool, just like weight watchers, Spark people or a gym membership. Having the surgery does not mean you will be successful in either losing the weight or keeping it off. Surgery is risky, she could have died or had major complications. Her weight (and yours) could have caused diabetes, heart disease and other serious illnesses.

Its hard, but try to be happy that she had that as a resource and be happy that you have succeeded without that resource. Be happy that both of you are healthier and will live to old age annoying the hell out of each other!

Try to tap in to her excitement about weight loss and nutrition and exercise and use that excitement to revitalize your effort and to support her as she transitions to a maintenance program that will be harder than you think. Remember that you are both working very hard on achieving good health. You took different roads but you are both getting there.

I don't know hunny. Did her insurance pay for it (medically necessary), or did she pay for it by herself?

Is it cheating? I try not to judge them, you know? I know someone who had it...and while he has been successful for 5 years or was a struggle for him, and it really was a last resort.

However, I also don't have someone throwing it in my face, basically, and being a sudden weight loss "expert".

I've a really bad snarky side to me, and I know my temper well enough to know that if my sister said that to would be the very last time she ever did - cause I'd very quickly let her know that the day I took weight loss advice from her is the day I'd shoot myself in the head.

A lot of people who weight are sudden experts...and they are - for them! Someone here who lost 200 pounds might give me advice that does not work for me, yet worked great for them.

I feel for you, hunny. Maybe the best thing for you is to keep your weight loss journey private. Don't bring it up, and if she brings up any more helpful "tips" ...say "thanks" and change the subject.

Everybody struggles with different things every day. The hardest thing I'm dealing with right now is my sister. I have been struggling with this last 10-20 lbs. for 2 years. Last year my obese sister had gastric sleeve surgery. She's lost over 100 lbs. in 11 months and is now 5 lbs. lighter than me! Now all of a sudden she's a diet and exercise expert. She's actually said to me, "You know, the secret to losing weight is to eat several small meals during the day and lift weights." While that is true and exactly what helped me lose 70 lbs., she forgot to mention that having 2/3rds of your stomach removed helps tremendously. *feeling bitter*

I know I should be happy for her but I just can't seem to be that magnanimous. I can't shake the feeling that while I bust my butt exercising and watching what I eat, she "cheated."
