I also have the apple shape. It does make me feel less feminine. I know ladies my height and BMI who wear smaller pants sizes, but I have to wear 8's and 10's because of my waist. If you can get your waist under 35' through your weight loss then it's considered healthy. I just had to tell myself to not stress over something I can't change. One thing that made me feel better about my shape was that one website actually called it the athletic shape. I don't mind being called athletic, it's way better than apple.
What is really dangerous to worry about is the people who have a lot of visceral fat (the fat around your organs). Just stick with your exercise plan. Whatever shape we are, we can all benefit from weight loss, exercise and a healthy diet. Good luck on your journey!

I'm the dreaded apple shape. I don't want to be one of those women that complains about it.... but I have to. (And you can too.) I read a thread on another website about an apple shaped woman who was complaining about it. I wanted to go all Oprah on her and point out that she did in fact state that she had long, lean legs. Well. That's just a slight heir of BS so I refrained. I do relate. Being an apple shape is no picnic. Aesthetic issues alone... my tummy is one inch bigger than my hips. What kind of messed up situation is that?? It definitely takes a toll on my womanly appearance. Women are supposed to be boobs and hips with a tiny waist, remember? Oy. It's impossible to find pants that fit. When I was larger I'd buy pants to fit my hips, and wear them unzipped with long shirts. Crazy, I know. Now that I've lost 44lbs.. I can wear those same pants up and over my stomach. You know, like normal people. Only know it feels like I'm toting a circus tent over my rear end. One of the lesser reasons I decided it was time to lose weight is because I was starting to lose my boobs anyway.. I held onto my boobs as a reason to put off losing weight for years. Well, I shrank from a DDD to a small D. I figure that at best I can resemble more of a ''ruler'' shape. And as a thinner person, clothes tend to manipulate better... at least I won't be trying to hide my stomach in everything.. I can show off a thinner waist or great legs.. or even use some illusions to create an hourglass shape. Or I can just love the hell out of my body and appreciate what it does for me every day! So that's my vanity speaking. The real reason being an apple shape sucks... is the health issues. We all know that body fat is dangerous, particularly when it's around your midsection. It raises your risk for numerous diseases and even takes years off of your life. My main goal is to get my waist size from a 51'' (in early November) to a 30'' My waist size as of Dec. 31st was 47'' ( measurement day is coming up! yay!)
