It is! You can even change the ingredients to your liking. I enjoy just lemons from time to time. A better decision than soda!

Sounds like a very good and tasty way to get in your water.

I brew me some black tea without adding anything but water. Somehow it reduces my appetite in the evenings.

The problem is that Sparkpeople does not support nor endorse detoxes or cleanses of any kind, and there is absolutely no scientific evidence of any kind that either can do what they claim. You may feel better simply because you're hydrating yourself, or placebo effect, but you're not flushing anything, because it's impossible.

I'm sorry you feel we're "debating" - when you post on a public message board, you will actually be opening yourself to contradicting opinions, especially when you are espousing a technique unsupported by this community and the company that hosts it.

We all follow our own path and have our own opinions. I didn't create the tea, didn't "label" it tea, etc. I'm calling it as I learned about it; tea. I'm not going off any technicalities here! I just suggested a nice refreshing detox tea for my fellow sparkpeople to read about and maybe try. And although our body "doesn't allow flushing", I will continue to say it. You all have a nice day. I wasn't looking for a debate. I was just sharing a recipe.

May I just point out, though, that it's been mentioned and shown why this is not "tea". It might be a refreshing drink, but one apparently cannot call that "tea" just because it's got leaves in it. It's got to be leaves of the right plant.

Also, no you don't "flush". Your body is not a toilet. Your personal story aside, science does not support the concept of "flushing" anything out of your body.

It's great that you feel great when you include this healthy and delicious drink!

So sorry for the late reply. YES I am still eating. I don't drink sodas, just water and tea everyday! I don't suggest anyone go on a detox to lose large amounts of weight. This tea I described here is a very subtle, but yet useful tea. This tea DOES flush out your system. I am speaking from experience that, I drink a bottle of this tea, and I feel absolutely great when my body "flushes" it's insides. I have lost a pound since drinking this tea. As I mentioned, I don't think anybody should go on a detox to lose large amounts of weight. Replace this tea with one beverage a day :) It's great tasting, healthy, and fresh! I hope you all enjoy it! ;)

any leaves [or plant matter] steeped in water = tisane, more often referred to as herbal tea
tea leaves steeped in water = tea.

Tea leaves steeped in water. :)

It's TOTALLY pedantic, but true. For something to be official a "tea" it must contain the leaves of the camellia sinensis plant.

Granted, we've more colloquially started calling "anything with leaves" a tea, but for the purists, it has to have actual tea in it.

Not that it matters at all. ;) Just me being a pedant.

It's leaves steeped in water. How do you define tea, Heather?

Your body isn't a toilet, and it can't be flushed.

Even by special teas.

What you have with your tea is basically a very tasty water (there's no tea in it, so it's not a tea) - it's not going to detox anything. It can't do anything more than hydrate you. Your body already detoxes itself just fine without help... that's what your liver and kidneys are for,

Check out this recent blog from SP on detoxes:

Detox is a myth.

However, it sounds like quite a tasty drink, and it's very low in calories. So if someone was to replace sodas or coffees with this, that would be a very helpful step!

You're actually eating as well, right? This isn't a recommendation to intake nothing but this tea is it?

If you are looking for a great daily detox tea.. I may be able to help. You get one gallon jar, one fresh lemon, 10-15 fresh mint leaves, and one medium size cucumber. (You can add or subtract minor amounts to your liking. I don't like the cucumber taste so I only put half a cucumber in, added about 20 mint leaves, and 2 lemons). You mix this into your gallon jar with water and ingredients, and let it steep over night. Remember, this is a DETOX tea. So, you will be flushing your body, so be expected to be using the bathroom more than likely more often. I was drinking it for a couple days and have lost one pound already. This is recommended for daily use. However, I personally suggest you shouldn't drink this tea before any major events to help avoid any unwanted bathroom runs.
