Hi JWC1231,

The scale is a funny little thing...when the number is down, we are happy campers, when the number is up we assume we did something wrong. The reality is, we can do everything right and the number goes up and we can throw caution to the wind and the number is down.

The deal is, our weight is not a static number--it can and it will fluctuate just like our blood pressure, heart rate, body temp and respiration. We don't take a single reading and say one has high blood pressure, nor should we consider a single reading on the scale to determine our success. The reason, ur bodies are mostly water-- therefore our diet (high sodium, high fiber, high carb), workouts, hydration and even hormones can affect the number on the scale.

I hope you had an amazing weekend. The weight loss will come as long as we stay the course and do not allow the scale to determine our success or lack thereof.

Unless you ate an extra 10,500 calories worth of salad fixings, you did not gain three pounds of fat. What you're experiencing is nothing more than a temporary water weight gain. Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ? Most women tend to "gain" weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope, it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days. This too shall pass.

I can easily gain or lose as much as 3-4 pounds in a day because of a water weight fluctuation. So, don't worry. You're going to see many ups and downs on the scale as you lose weight. And that's perfectly normal.

Don't worry ! You really are okay. it's just water retention.

Just returned from a ladies weekend. Despite my best efforts (brought salad fixings, a low cal martini recipe, veggies and hummus; drank water, went on walks) I just put on ALL the weight I lost during January. It was only 3 pounds, but I really tried NOT to have a gain this weekend. And it was hard work losing those three pounds! (So much easier to put them back on!. LOL) I'm feeling so discouraged this morning! I am back on program -tracking food, drinking my water, trolling the Spark boards. Just looking for a little encouragement and maybe your best weight-loss tip to help get me back in the groove!
