I definitely "gain" weight when I eat a large meal the night before. Why ? The food you eat has weight. the water you drink has weight.

Let me give you an example, before you eat your meal, weigh the food. All of that goes into your body and if you don't expel the waste products the next morning (do a poop), then all that food is still in your body. It doesn't disappear.

I can easily gain 3-4 pounds in a day. no problem.

Don't assume you gained fat overnight. That doesn't happen. It takes the body a while to store excess fat. However, I can make the scale go up just by drinking 2-4 glasses of water. As I mentioned earlier, water has weight and if you retain water, just like food, you will see the scale go up.

that's why we tell members NOT to weigh themselves multiple times a day or even once a day. it's because your weight is not a static number. It does go up and down for many different reasons that some times have nothing to do with the food you eat.

Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ?? most women tend to gain during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope, that too is nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days.

Don't worry. it's normal to "gain" weight overnight, but not fat.

I only get weighted once a month because of this issue ! The day before i get weighted i cut down my water intake to whats necessary other wise i do 8-10 glasses of water a day and i also watch my sodium for 3 days before i get weighted or i get water weight to ! emoticon

My question would be how large is the meal and is it high in sodium. If I have a really significant cheat meal - mexican food and margaritas - which are all high in fat, sodium, and sugary carbs then yes I can gain 5 lbs and take all week to get it off. Pizza falls in that same category for me.

The longer I've been eating healthy the more I've learned to moderate how frequently and what I eat in a cheat meal. The other thing is to increase your water intake for a couple of days to help get it out of your system and go back to healthy eating ASAP.

I also spread my calories out over the course of the day and have 3 meals and 3 snacks that average 200-300 calories. That helps me control my hunger and not get to the point where I want a really large meal.

Are you tracking your food on SP? You can add nutrients to track and one of them is sodium. Tracking my food was one of the best things I did when I first started SP. It really opened my eyes to some of the bad habits I had.

Good luck!

Hi,

I wanted to know if anyone else gains alot of weight overnight, if they have a larger than normal meal. I can put on 7 pounds and then if I am not too depressed from that and stay on track, it will take up to a week to lose and go back to where I was before the larger meal.
My neighbor thinks it is from my high blood pressue and is water gain. Dr. told me I was not retaining water, however my fingers were swollen. So not syre whats up.

Thanks,
