The BEST thing for my leg cramps is a BANANA! I always eat a banana before I workout--the potassium keeps my muscles from cramping. It's truly amazing--try it! :)

Even walking slowly for a few minutes before you start your walk can get the blood flowing and help prevent cramping. Also make sure you're properly hydrated and wearing good shoes.

Are you doing a good warm up before your walk? Are you wearing good shoes that fit properly and aren't worn out?

This happens to me also. I try to stretch a bit before. Sometimes if it's bad I'll stop and stretch when it is happening. Slowing your pace down isn't a bad thing. It will just take you a bit longer but you will have roughly the same calorie burn. Just slow it down till the pain passed.
happens to me too. I find that stretching before and after the walk really help. It hasn't been as noticeable when i speed walk.

I have been walking for about 2 months, I decided it was time to get back into shape. I am 55 and I have lost 70 lbs with out any exercise only dieting. Since I have been feeling better since walking, but I get cramps or muscle tightness about 3/4 mile into my walk. If I slow my pace down it goes away but as soon as I pick up my pace it comes back. It doesn't matter if I am outdoors or on the treadmill. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening
