Alone...living with one grown daughter and a granddaughter and two college kids (which I LOVE LOVE LOVE don't get me wrong) and with being a full time nanny for two little ones ALONE! I need the solitude during that time.
I have a running partner that I've run with for about 3 years (she's currently recovering from surgery). We usually run once or twice a week.
I always ask DH to go with me to the gym or the park. He usually doesn't go, but I do.
I've walked with a co-worker in the past, and she wants to start back. Anytime she's ready, I'll be there. But I'll still exercise on my own.
it is better to have somebody else to hold you accountable. Unfortunately it seems I'M that person for the people I know!

I like the social aspect of walking with a friend, but have found I move faster with just my dog. However, while my sister was visiting, she tried one of my workout dvds and I found I pushed myself harder while she was working out with me. So I think it depends on the workout and your goals for the workout.
