Hi there, I also got the "wake up call" today. I had signed up for SP a while back and never used it. I got on the scale today and was SHOCKED!!! I have gained 10 pounds since the last time I weighed myself and am very upset today. I need to change but feel very tired and honestly have no energy to work out.. I am currently taking medication for low iron and hyperthyroid, which, my Dr. says could contribute to my weight gain...I have just started taking the medication about two months ago and do not feel any difference yet. I am hoping taking the two will help with my energy level. I NEED to get this weight off, and I am ready to give it a try!!! I like the fact that we all can talk and share stories, and give feedback like this!!! Good Luck to you all :) Today is DAY 1 for me wish me luck as well :)

Hi, Christina! Wipe the tears and let's move on. You have assessed the damage, now it is time to correct it.
Sadly, way too many see bariatric surgery as the 'cure' for their obesity. The medical community has done nothing to dissuade this (there is a lot of money involved!). Being from and in the healthcare field has only enforced that to me.
The bottom line is intake (food)-output (activity) = health; that is if the result is a negative number. With or without surgery, we need to eat less and move more.
We at Sparkpeople are ready to help you to not only reach your goal, but also to maintain it. You have proved you can get to goal; now let's learn how to stay there!

WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time.
A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Put together your own Spark page. This is a great way to communicate with other members and build relationships that will support and motivate you. You can do this by going to the START page and the green section has something about your Sparkpage.
2. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
3. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Good Morning All.....so my name is Christina and yesterday I signed up with SparkPeople. When creating my profile I entered my weight as 180...guessing, but BELIEVING that, when I weighted myself, it would be close, or possibly below that. The last time I weighted myself (which was on my birthday, September 30th) it ws 165. To my absolute shock I weighed in at 201.7! Just typying that I feel sick to my stomach. I TRULY believed my weight wasnt this high. I cant believe I'm back in the 2's again. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2004 and took my weight lose VERY seriously for many years. I got down to 157 (from a high of 275). My weight tended to fluctuate by 10 pounds but WOW 201! Here's the kicker...I PRIDE myself on that fact I dont drinik or smoke. MANY people tell me I look far younger than my age of 48 but, I'm not getting any younger and this weight is putting my health at risk. I work in healthcare and I see patients everyday who's health is complicated by their weight. WHY do I think I will be any different. My lifestyle change has to start sometime and I am choosing TODAY! I am asking for your help and guidance and will be happy to do the same for others. I know I'm not alone in this. -Christina
