I agree with ARCH, it depends on when you post. I find first thing in the morning when people are drinking coffee is a good time.

I generally don't respond to posts where people type in all caps. If you want interactions with people try posting an interesting question or asking for their opinions on a subject. You may also want to avoid "scolding" people for not reading and commenting on your posts, too. A lot of us come here to unwind and find friendly, supportive folks, not to be chastised.

Hi GrandmaFranny! I loved your original post "To all Sparkers". I've added you as a sparkfriend. I will understand in the future why you're posts are in all caps.

I have instructions on how to make the words on your screen larger. (For internet explorer)

1. Go to the top of you screen and find the "view" and click on it. This will bring down a drop-down list.

2. Select Zoom in the list. You can either choose Zoom in or a percentage number to make the screen and words larger. Choosing Zoom in seems to be the simplest way to do this.

I hope this helps. I'm also going to post the instructions on your spark page to ensure that you see this.

If you hit the Ctrl and + key together. You can make your screen bigger. Oops I made it too big, Ctrl and hyphen key. Hope that helps

Hi GrandmaFranny,

I read your posts and enjoyed them. I just don't respond to most of the posts that I read. Thank you for your motivational words. They are appreciated.

Don't feel badly if people don't respond to your posts because people are definitely reading them even if they don't respond.

Oh and I also did want to say that you can make the words larger on your computer screen so you can read them easier. Maybe there's someone you know who is good with computers who can help you? I'll bet one of your grandkids would know how.

Franny, have someone help you learn to use the "access" features of your computer. You can get it to blow up the size of ALL web sites, and even to speak out the words you're typing. When posts are in all caps, they are especially hard for fast readers OR slow readers, because it's not easy to find the beginning and end of a sentence. It becomes even harder when you add emoticons (pictures) into the middle, because that makes the lines break in strange places.

And sometimes you just don't get a reply. It's just like real life. If you walk into a busy supermarket and say, "Hi, everyone!", sometimes you won't get a reply there, either. People who are busy talking to someone else might not even hear you. Many, many other people will smile back at you but not say anything. Others just don't generally talk to strangers, or they think you're talking to someone else. On an online forum it takes specific action to reply, so really, it's like you stood outside the window at Target and waved, and you're getting offended that no one stopped shopping, opened the door, and came out to talk to you.

It doesn't mean people don't like you. It doesn't mean you don't motivate anyone. It just means that not everyone takes time to read and respond to each of the 200-300 threads that are posted here every day.

Here's a question for you: How many posts did YOU answer today? I bet there were at least a thousand posts on this site that YOU didn't respond to. Does that mean you're an uncaring person? Should you feel bad for not making EVERYONE feel special?

haha this so reflects how I felt when I was on here last time, not from posts I started but I would put my 2cents in or aska question on an existing thread and I thought "I am the thread killer" it was a horrible feeling

Don't worry or feel unloved when people don't respond to your posting. Sometimes I start threads and then I hear crickets. Sometimes I post and get a lot of responses. Its all good and a learning experience.

And also please take your keyboard off of caps lock. It is often considered yelling. Not only that it hurts peoples eyes. I skipped over most of your post because it hurt my eyes.

Your last post (which I just searched for and read) is typed like a rhetorical statement so I understand not getting responses. It does not ask a question or invite discussion. If it's truly a loving gift from you then you wouldn't expect anything back from it. Just something to ponder.

GRANDMAFRANNY,

There are going to be days when you post something and no one replies. And that doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. I've noticed that the evenings can be very quiet on the Spark People forums.

If you'd like more replies, try posting in the morning. Members tend to be more active in the morning, than at night. They also tend to be more active Monday - Friday, during the workout week. If you do post at night, you just need to be more patient. Give someone a chance to reply before you start wondering where everyone is.

Some days, when it's quiet, you may have to be your own motivator.

You made a thread on a Saturday night, time stamp is 6:24. At 8:39 you made THIS thread, complaining that no one had responded to your other one. Here's a few reasons why:

a) it was only 2 hours later on a slow Saturday night! You need to have a little patience. Many people check the boards only once a day or less.

b) your post didn't exactly invite discussion... it was a "rah rah go sparkers" kind of post, which people perhaps appreciate reading, but what more is there to say? Please be content with knowing that people did read, and may have felt cheered-on, by your post - even if they didn't respond to it. If you really want to be supportive, consider that the best support you can give, is given without "strings attached! "

c) the all caps thing. i see you have indicated you have difficulty with your vision, citing this as your reason for posting in all caps. one question - can you read this paragraph? it is written in all lower case. if you can read *my* lower-case paragraph, you should be able to compose in lower-case yourself. Zoom your browser screen bigger if you need to (hold down the 'ctrl' key while rolling the wheel on a wheel mouse is a very easy way to resize things). If this isn't a workable solution, then perhaps try using Word to create your posts (adjusting the font as big and bold as you need it to be, to be able to see what you are typing in mixed/lower case), then cut and paste your message into the spark message box. IT IS REALLY WORTH THE EFFORT TO DO THIS, as, quite frankly, many people are so put off by all-caps that they will not even read posts written that way. period. regardless of the "reason" the all caps were used. If you want your posts to reach a wide audience - ditch the all caps even if it means some extra inconvenience to yourself. If you really have no way around using all caps - recognize that your posting style WILL limit your reading audience.

Hopefully you were just having a bad day when you decided to YELL at the entire SP community. I know it takes a lot of courage to ask for help and I can imagine it's very disheartening to not get it when you ask for it. But like another poster stated, there are so many places to post on the message boards and the ones that could offer you the support you are looking for may not be on that board at the time you post. We all try our best!

I'm sorry you feel like people aren't appreciating your efforts. It's true that a lot of people have really busy weekends and are not online as much.

One thing I'd like to note for you-- when you use all CAPS to write things online, it is seen as YELLING at people. And it's harder to read as well. I understand that it can be easier to type that way, since you don't have to use the shift key-- but it really can be seen as obnoxious by some people. Just a thought.
